Jonathan leaned closer. His cool breath brushed against the back of her neck. He said, “Then who was the one clinging to me just now and wouldn’t let go for a second?”

Teresa was rendered speechless.

Jonathan quit teasing her and explained, “That whole private deal was orchestrated by a senior executive at my company. He secretly messed around with other companies, too. I know who he is. I’ll dismiss him. Right now, there’s no solid evidence tying me to any of this, so they let me go. But I can’t leave Nareigh for the next ten days, let alone go abroad. I’m still under observation, so I can only move around within Nareigh.”

Teresa understood.

Benny had already been waiting at Jonathan’s door. When he saw Jonathan get out of the car and help Teresa out, he hurried over to explain.

Benny said to Teresa, “I’m sorry. I didn’t see your call. I was so busy picking up Jonathan today that I totally forgot to answer your call.”

“As long as he is back safe, that’s all that matters,” Teresa said.

Benny smiled and looked at Jonathan. “Teresa was so worried about you. She was even willing to risk herself and take the fall for you.”

“What?” Jonathan arched an eyebrow at Benny.

Teresa quickly tried to stop Benny from saying more.

However, Benny kept going. “Well, Teresa talked to me about the law, saying that pregnant women get an exemption from imprisonment. She told me that you could blame everything on her.”

Jonathan fell silent. There was a flicker of emotion in his eyes as he looked at Teresa.

With one hand supporting her belly, Teresa awkwardly kicked Benny. She asked, “Are you done talking?”

Benny immediately turned to Jonathan to complain, “Look at her. She kicked me.”

Jonathan took Teresa’s hand and said, “Take care. Don’t throw out your back. Let’s get inside.”

Benny was speechless. “I’m done with you two.”

“Mike, look who’s back,” Teresa called out as she walked into the house and glanced around for Michael.

Hearing her voice, Michael dashed down the stairs and looked at Jonathan with excitement. “Dad. Mr. Daddy Lime.”

Jonathan bent down and caught Michael as he ran over. He grabbed Michael under his arms and lifted him high up. Jonathan asked, “Did you miss me?”

“Yes, I did. I missed you so much,” Michael replied.

Michael laughed in Jonathan’s arms, with their foreheads pressed together. After they got along with each other for a long time, their bond had grown deeper.

Teresa watched them, and her eyes shimmered with unshed tears. She thought, ‘Let things stay just like this!’

She suddenly felt that all she needed was Jonathan and Michael, as well as her unborn baby and everyone else she loved, were safe. Nothing else was more important than that.

Jonathan noticed Teresa’s tears. He set Michael down and asked, “Why are you crying?”

Benny laughed and teased. “Obviously, she missed you so much and she couldn’t help crying when you came back.”

Teresa raised her fist and thought. Is this guy ever going to stop?

“Alright. I won’t get in the way of you two being all lovey-dovey later. I’m leaving. I’m dead tired.” Benny yawned and turned to leave.

After taking a shower, Jonathan went straight to the kitchen and started making dinner.

Teresa stood in the upstairs hallway, where she could watch him move around the kitchen.

She wondered if he often ran into setbacks like this when he was working hard all alone in a strange city and if he ever felt helpless, with no one to turn to.

Jonathan only showed her his strong side, but never revealed any hint of his vulnerability.

Even though it had only been two days since she last saw him, she felt like two whole years had gone by. She had to admit that it was peaceful and wonderful to quietly watch him like this.

Once dinner was ready, Jonathan glanced at Teresa, noticing she had something to say. He could already guess what was on her mind. Thus, he said, “I know about Jennifer. I’ll go see how she is doing.”
