Chapter 920
Though he was furious when he found out Jennifer had abused her power as a doctor to fake the report, deep down, he thought that an apology would fix everything. It never crossed his mind that Jennifer might end up behind bars.
If something really happened to her and she got a criminal record, it would be so hard for her to find a job, and people would see her in a negative light. The world was just that cruel.
โSo, weโre supposed to stand by and watch Jennifer go to jail?โ Donald asked.
โItโs out of our hands. If Jonathan signs the letter of forgiveness, Jennifer might get a lighter sentence. Thatโs already the best we can hope for,โ Gary replied.
Donald said nothing and clenched his fists tightly.
Jonathan finished his call and walked back over. He said he could sign the letter of forgiveness and request a lighter sentence, but beyond that, there was nothing more he could do.
Honestly, Jonathan didnโt want things to end up like this either. For Teresaโs sake, he had decided to let the whole forgery thing go. He didnโt want to bring it up ever again.
However, Irene sued Jennifer. That was something completely out of Jonathanโs hands.
Donald let out a heavy sigh and said, โJennifer has been punished enough. She lost her job and her motherโs love, and she even tried to take her own life. She almost didnโt make it. She has suffered so much already. Isnโt that enough?โ
Jonathan narrowed his eyes a bit. He said, โI know all that. Like I said, whether she gets out or not isnโt up to me. Iโve already checked.
โTomorrow at eight, Iโll sign the letter of forgiveness, and after that, itโs in the lawyersโ hands. Iโve got things to do. I have to go now.โ
Jonathan still had a ton on his plate, so he decided to leave. Staying any longer would be a waste of time, because Jonathan had already finished giving his statement.
But Donald still couldnโt let it go. He wanted to ask Jonathan if there was any other way to get Jennifer out of this. He couldnโt stand the idea of Jennifer being stuck there. Every single second that passed was torture for him.
Gary blocked his way. โDidnโt you hear what Jonathan said? He canโt just snap his fingers and get her out right away. Heโs not some all-powerful mob boss. Letโs give him a break. He needs rest.โ
Donald asked, โIsnโt there any other way? Canโt I serve her sentence for her? Jennifer is a woman. She couldnโt stand it.โ
Gary got a bit annoyed. โAre you a kid or something? Do you know where you are? Everything you say here is being recorded. If anyone could take the blame for someone else, whatโs the use of laws?
โBesides, Jennifer wonโt be locked up for long. I checked with Jonathanโs lawyer friend. If Jennifer gets Jonathanโs forgiveness, the most sheโll get is six months of detention.โ
Donald couldnโt accept Jennifer being in jail for half a year, either. He thought, Jennifer is miserable enough. She lost so much. And now she should be thrown in jail?
Gary sighed and said, โHonestly, I used to think just like you. I also thought about taking the fall for Jennifer, but she is stubborn and wouldnโt see reason. Now, she has no one to blame but herself and Irene.โ
Donald slumped in defeat. He said bitterly, โYouโre right. Aunt Irene has been deliberately looking for trouble, or none of this would have happened in the first place.โ
If nobody had reported it, the police wouldnโt have put it on record.
Now, Donald was pinning all the blame on Irene. He slammed his fist onto the wall beside him and said, โIโve never disliked anyone this much before.โ He actually hated Irene right now.
Gary clasped his hands in front of his mouth and said, โThis is already the best outcome we could hope for. Letโs just wait until tomorrow and see how long Jennifer will get sentenced for.โ
