Chapter 925

“Mr. Daddy Lime” Michael was the first to spot Jonathan. He dashed over to Jonathan and said, “You’re awake. Why didn’t you sleep a little longer? Mom and I are making you a cake.”

Jonathan bent down and gave Michael’s little nose a gentle flick. “How do you know I am craving cake?” Jonathan asked.

“Maybe I can read your mind,” Michael replied and grinned. He then ran off happily to check if the cake was ready.

Jonathan walked over to Teresa. Only then did he tell her about Jennifer’s sentence. “She will probably be sentenced for about six months,” he said.

“What? Has the sentence been pronounced?” Teresa wanted to ask him as soon as he got back, but seeing how tired he was, she decided to let him rest.

“We’re waiting for the court date to be set. Benny will take care of it. According to him, it should be about six months,” Jonathan explained.

Though six months wasn’t a long time, it passed slowly. Teresa had complicated feelings. After thinking for a moment, she said, “I want to go visit her.”

Jonathan frowned. “No.”

Teresa said, “I know you’re worried I’ll get too emotional and it’ll affect the baby, but I just want to see her. There’s something I need to talk to her about.”

Jonathan fell silent. Finally, he said, “I can set it up, but you have to promise me one thing.”

“What is it?” Teresa asked.

“After that, you and Michael need to head straight to Jarisburg,” Jonathan told her.

He had no idea if Eason would try anything else, and he wasn’t about to risk Teresa or their kids.

Jonathan had made all the arrangements at the postpartum care center and delivery suite in Jarisburg, just waiting for Teresa to show up.

“Okay. I promise,” Teresa said.

She couldn’t make it today, so she went to the police station the next day.

Teresa had been trying to hold back her emotions on the way there. She thought she could stay calm and collected, but when she saw Jennifer, who looked so haggard and with her hair all messy, Teresa couldn’t help but tear up.

Jennifer was a woman who had once been so proud and above everyone else, but now, after losing everything, she was about to go to prison.

Teresa knew that one had to pay the price for what he or she had done, and that no one got special treatment in the eyes of the law. However, Teresa couldn’t help but feel pitiful.

She thought, If Jennifer hadn’t been a doctor, things might not have turned out this way. But she broke the law just when she was still on the job!

Teresa said sincerely, “If only you hadn’t crossed Irene…”

No one could have expected that something Jonathan thought was over would be dragged back into the light by Irene.

Jennifer gave a bitter smile. “Don’t you know that old hag by now? She’ll do anything to make things hard for us. She doesn’t care whether you and Jonathan are back together or not.”

“I know,” Teresa replied.

If Irene cared about how Teresa felt, Irene would never have gone after Jennifer like this.

Irene knew full well that it would stir up trouble between the Lynn family and the Johnston family, put Teresa in an awkward spot, and make her whole family feel miserable. But Irene went ahead and did it anyway.

Teresa had always known Irene never cared about her feelings. Jennifer’s matter was just more proof of that. Now, Teresa felt her heart was numb.

Jennifer enunciated every word, “Don’t get back together with Jonathan. As long as Irene is around, you’ll never be happy. Just tell your family straight up that your remarriage is for show, so everyone will know what’s going on.”

Teresa didn’t want to dwell on that, so she got straight to the point. “Don’t worry about your job. When you get out, you can work at my company. I’ll offer you an executive position.”
