Chapter 927

โ€œOkay,โ€ Teresa said. She promised Jonathan that she would help Jennifer with the last thing and then leave.

The next day, Jonathan informed Donald that Jennifer had asked Teresa to get the divorce certificate for her. Donald was completely against it.

Donald refused to go to the courthouse to get the divorce certificate, insisting that he couldnโ€™t ignore Jennifer when she was in jail.

Teresa said, โ€œThis is the last thing she begged me to do for her. She knows you wouldnโ€™t agree, but she asked me to tell you that she hopes youโ€™ll respect her decision to get a divorce.โ€

Donald went silent. His heart ached with reluctance and pain. He was unable to accept it.

Teresa could tell Donald still had feelings for Jennifer. She wanted to tell him that Jennifer didnโ€™t have an abortion by choice, but instead, it was the car accident that took the baby away.

Even though Jennifer had once thought about having an abortion, to be fair, she later changed her mind. The baby was gone because of the accident.

Just as Teresa was about to say it, Donald spoke first. He said, โ€œJennifer told me to stop caring about her and to date and marry someone else. Is that really what she wants?โ€

Teresa suddenly went quiet. She wondered, โ€œIf Jennifer truly wants Donald to move on, then wouldnโ€™t that go against her wishes if I told him the truth now? Maybe not meddling in their fate is the greatest respect I can show them.โ€

In the end, Teresa kept the truth to herself. She thought maybe it wasnโ€™t her story to tell. โ€œSince this is what she wants, letโ€™s respect her wishes,โ€ Teresa said.

Donald remained silent. He still didnโ€™t want to go to the courthouse because getting the divorce certificate meant there was nothing left between him and Jennifer.

Teresa said, โ€œDragging this out isnโ€™t going to help either of you. If you get divorced, and if you still love her when she gets out, you can remarry."

Donald didnโ€™t know if he could remarry Jennifer. Once the divorce certificate was in hand, they would go their separate ways. He didnโ€™t know if they would ever be together again.

โ€œThe sun is about to set. Teresa has to leave for Jarisburg tomorrow. Donโ€™t drag this out any longer,โ€ Jonathan, who hadnโ€™t said a word until now, spoke up in a calm voice.

After a long silence, Donald agreed to go to the courthouse and get the divorce certificate.

It was the 16th of the month today, exactly thirty days since Donald and Jennifer had filed for divorce.

There were plenty of couples who were about to get divorced at the courthouse, and quite a few were there to pick up their divorce certificates.

Donald thought, โ€œWhen people get married happily, no one would think theyโ€™ll get divorced angrily, right?โ€

When Donaldโ€™s number was called, the clerk at the counter glanced at Teresa, who was standing beside him. The clerk asked in surprise, โ€œYour wife is heavily pregnant, and you still want a divorce?โ€

Jonathan, who was standing nearby, couldnโ€™t help declaring that Teresa was his wife, but Teresa quickly grabbed his arm, signaling him to stay quiet.

The clerk looked up, and when she saw Jonathanโ€™s handsome face, she realized what might have been going on. She shot Teresa a thumbs-up.

She said, โ€œYour new boyfriend is even hotter than your ex. Girl, youโ€™re really lucky. Even with that baby bump, youโ€™ve still got a handsome guy after you.โ€

Jonathan was left speechless.

Teresa had brought Jenniferโ€™s ID with her and signed the divorce acknowledgment form on Jenniferโ€™s behalf.

It was a real hassle to get a divorce. One had to go to the courthouse twice, once for the cooling-off period and the other for the signing of all sorts of paperwork.
