Chapter 929

Eason didn’t understand what was going on with Yalena. She never used to be like this, but nowadays her mind seemed to be filled with hasty thoughts all day long.

“Mr. Kelly, I’ll get in touch right away. By the way, here is an invitation from Mr. Morgan Dewitt of Crestevive Trade,” Eason’s subordinate said.

“I see,” Eason replied. That night, Eason left home.

While Eason was on the way, Yalena called him. “Dad, look at how Jonathan has been treating us. He stole so many of our deals. Are you going to let him off that easily?”

Eason snapped, “His wife is about to give birth. We can’t target them now.”

“No. I’ll let Teresa see that I, Yalena Kelly, am not someone to mess with,” Yalena declared with conviction and then hung up.

“Yalena?” Eason stared at his phone, feeling completely helpless.

“What’s wrong, Mr. Kelly? You look so down,” Morgan said as he clinked glasses with Eason over a drink. “Was Jonathan’s recent mess your doing?”

Eason didn’t bother to hide it. “He doesn’t respect the Kelly family. He had this coming.”

“Eason, let me give you some advice. Don’t go head-to-head with Jonathan. He is young, but he’s not someone you want to mess with,” Morgan warned.

“What do you mean, Morgan?” Eason asked.

Morgan let out a sigh and went on, “In just two years, he clawed his way up from the bottom to the very top of the food chain. That alone says a lot.

“When it comes to spotting dividends and catching the next big trend, he is fast, sharp, and ruthless. I heard he acquired ten hotels in a minute last year. Anyone who tries to play games with him in business always ends up paying the price.

“Besides, he has got a powerful ally, Clint’s son. You know Clint, right? He’s a well-respected figure in Nareigh’s political circles. Jonathan and he are very close. You’ll catch them grabbing drinks or having dinner together from time to time.

“Jonathan’s wife is a classmate of Clint’s son, and it was Clint’s son who introduced them.”

“Morgan, how come you know all this stuff?” Eason teased.

Morgan laughed, took a sip of his drink, and said, “I’ve been hustling in Nareigh for years. I was here even before you came back.

“Jonathan’s grandfather was a retired soldier, and his father was really talented, but sadly died young from cancer. His mother isn’t exactly capable, but she never hesitated to pour money into him.

“After Jonathan graduated, he worked under Peter, and he had the guts to leave Hills Group and strike out on his own. That young man is no joke. He’s definitely got what it takes.”

Morgan added, “When Jonathan got divorced, his mother tried to introduce him to a bunch of women. She even asked about my daughter, and I was totally on board.

“But the thing is, Jonathan only had eyes for one girl, the one he has remarried now. He loves her very much.”

A hint of regret and pity flickered in Morgan’s eyes.

“What’s his wife’s background?” Eason asked.

Morgan shook his head slightly and said, “I’m not too sure. All I know is her family used to run a company in Nareigh, but it went bankrupt.

“She took over her father’s failed business and, riding on Jonathan’s momentum, slowly brought it back to life. Her business mainly targets women’s brands.”

Eason fell silent. He realized that Teresa hadn’t had it easy, which was nothing like what Yalena had been saying in private. Valena said that Jonathan’s mother was awful and mean. But from what Eason was hearing, that didn’t add up.

Morgan tapped his glass against Eason’s and said, “Eason, when two sides fight, it’s always the bystander who profits. Don’t let yourself end up paying the bigger price.”

Eason smiled faintly and didn’t say anything more.
