Werner wheeled Hayden over, and Teresa hurried out to greet them.

Teresa had no idea why Hayden was there. She said, “Hayden, are you here to see Jonathan? He’s not home. He went to the company.”

“Well, I’m not here for him. I’m here for you,” Hayden replied. He took Teresa’s hand and smiled. “I heard you’re heading to Jarisburg to rest up for the baby.”

Teresa assumed it was Jonathan who had told him, but Hayden shook his head.

He said, “It was Donald who came home and told us. Donald and Jennifer are divorced. Alas.”

Teresa fell silent. As for Donald and Jennifer’s marriage, it was their own business. No matter how much others sighed or felt sorry, there was nothing anyone else could do about it.

“Teresa, I came here because there’s something special I want to give you,” Hayden said.

With trembling hands, Hayden took out a carefully wrapped, slightly worn star pendant bracelet. It had a green color, and its surface was smooth and clear with a delicate sheen.

“This was the most precious thing Jonathan’s grandmother left behind before she passed away. I’d like you to have this bracelet,” Hayden said.

Werner, standing nearby, was stunned. He knew about this bracelet. Irene had asked for it before, and even Cathy had tried to hint at wanting it, but Hayden had never given it to either of them.

Werner thought Hayden would treasure that bracelet as a keepsake. Unexpectedly, Hayden would give it to Teresa.

“I’m not getting any younger, you know. Sometimes I worry I might drop dead at any moment,” Hayden said, trying to sound lighthearted.

He added, “So, I want you to have this bracelet. Jonathan’s mom and his aunt both wanted it, but I didn’t give it to either of them.

“Wearing this bracelet indicates that you’re the one I trust and approve of most. Even if I’m no longer around, you’ll be the hostess of the house, and the Lynn family will listen to you.”

“Hayden, thanks, but this bracelet is too precious. I’m afraid I can’t accept it. Please take it back,” Teresa said cautiously. After all, she and Jonathan weren’t truly remarried.

However, Hayden was determined. He insisted on giving it to Teresa today, no matter what.

He said, “Teresa, listen to me. You and Jonathan have remarried. Once I give this to you, I won’t have anything left to worry about.”

Teresa’s eyes turned red. Seeing Hayden’s trembling, weathered hands, she was reminded of Bradley and Natalie. Sadly, both of them had been gone for years.

In fact, Natalie had once given Teresa a bracelet as well, but one day, that bracelet was smashed during an argument with Irene and Yvonne.

Teresa had never told Jonathan about it, but after that bracelet broke, she realized her marriage to Jonathan was truly over. She didn’t want to go on like that anymore, no more marriage or men.

That was why Teresa had been so reluctant to remarry. Some wounds just didn’t heal that easily.

Teresa came back to herself. With tears blurring her sight, she said, “Hayden, I really can’t accept this. It’s too much for me.”

Hayden insisted. “If I say you can handle it, then you can. Actually, there’s one more little wish I have.”

Teresa asked, “What is it?”

Hayden let out a long sigh and said, “Since you and Jonathan are back together, would you let the coming baby have Jonathan’s last name?”

Teresa suddenly went quiet.

Hayden hurried to say, “I’d feel pleased to just have the coming baby alone have the last name Lynn. Teresa, you might think I’m old fashioned. Donald has gotten divorced, and I can’t count on him to have kids anymore.

“Right now, the only ones carrying on the Lynn family bloodline are Mike and the baby you’re carrying. Could you fulfill this expectation of mine?”
