โHas she given birth? Are they safe?โ Jonathan asked anxiously.
โThe doctor said sheโs still in labor,โ Gary replied.
โWhy is it taking so long? Take me to her now!โ Jonathan cut him off, already striding ahead of Gary.
Just as they reached the floor, Jonathan saw the red light above the operating room, and then a doctor came out holding blood-soaked gauze.
In that instant, Jonathan was in so much pain he could barely breathe. He felt like he was suffocating. The sight of all that blood was horrifying. He grabbed a doctor, his voice trembling with urgency. โWhatโs my wifeโs condition now?โ
The doctor, sounding a bit defensive, quickly explained, โShe did have some bleeding earlier, but sheโs out of danger now, Mr. Lynn. Please try not to worry. This kind of bleeding is pretty common, especially with premature labor. Things were a bit more intense because of the early delivery, so there was more blood than usual.โ
Jonathan didnโt say a word, his eyes growing misty. โThatโs all Teresaโs blood. She must be in so much pain,โ he thought, heart aching. His fists clenched at his sides so hard his knuckles creaked. โI just want her to be safe. Save her.โ
โDonโt worry, Mr. Lynn. Her will to live is incredibly strong. She kept cheering herself up the whole time. Weโll do everything we can to save both her and the baby,โ the doctor reassured him.
Just then, Jonathanโs phone rang. It was Eason. โJonathan? Whatโs gotten into you, you little punk? I havenโt done anything to you!โ
That morning, when Teresa left Nareigh, Jonathan had gone to see Eason, and Eason was the one who offered a truce.
Eason said he wasnโt the type to kick a man when he was down, and heโd never use women or children as bargaining chips. He told Jonathan heโd wait until Teresa had delivered safely, and then they could settle things between them.
Jonathan respected him for being a stand-up guy. But now things were different.
โGo ask your daughter what she did to my wife. My wifeโs in premature labor because of her, and I swear I wonโt forgive any of you for this!โ Jonathan snapped before hanging up.
Eason was left completely dumbfounded, frozen on the spot. He honestly couldnโt figure out how Yalena couldโve pushed Teresa into premature labor.
Heโd clearly told Yalena not to push things too far, not to hit someone when theyโre already down, especially when theyโre at their most vulnerable.
โHello?โ Jonathan answered another call.
โMr. Lynn, weโve tracked down Yalena. Sheโs at a parking lot near the Capital Airport. Looks like sheโs trying to leave,โ the voice on the other end said.
โStop her. Donโt let her get away. Take her to a nearby hotel. Iโll be there soon,โ Jonathanโs eyes were sharp and menacing, brimming with a cold, murderous rage. His gaze was icy enough to freeze someone on the spot.
Gary saw that deadly glint in his eyes and felt a chill running down his spine. Jonathan really looked like he could kill someone.
Benny finally finished throwing up and came upstairs. Gary walked over and quickly filled him in on Teresaโs current situation. He frowned, his eyes following Jonathan, who was standing guard outside the operating room.
Benny turned to Gary, his voice low and serious. โWe absolutely canโt leave right now. Otherwise, Jonathan might really go and kill the woman who made Teresa go into premature labor.โ
Gary was wracked with guilt. โItโs all my fault. I never shouldโve left the hospital today. I was too careless!โ
โThatโs not important right now. As long as Teresa and the baby are safe, thatโs all that matters.โ Benny didnโt even dare to imagine what Jonathan would do if things went wrong.
Time dragged on, each second feeling like an eternity. The men waiting outside the door all stood there with their hearts clenched in anxiety.
Jonathan leaned against the operating room door. No one blamed themselves more than he did. At long last, at 9:35 in the morning, the red light above the operating room finally went out.
