Chapter 956
Jonathan was stunned for a second when he heard the news. Then, without thinking, he shoved the doctor out of the way and burst into Teresaโs room.
Teresa had just regained consciousness in her hospital room, and the first person she saw was Miriam.
Miriam clutched Teresaโs hand, her face streaked with tears of joy. โTeresa, youโre finally awake!โ
Just as Miriam finished speaking, Jonathan pushed the door open and walked in, locking his gaze on Teresa. He hurriedly sat down on the other side of the bed and gave her a smile. โYouโre awake. Are you feeling any discomfort?โ
Teresa shook her head slightly. She wasnโt in pain, but she still seemed a bit out of it.
Jonathan didnโt care that Miriam was right there. He just couldnโt help himself and pulled Teresa into his arms. He was so overwhelmed with emotion that he couldnโt hold it in.
As he felt her warmth against him, his arms instinctively tightened around her. โDo you have any idea how long youโve been out? We were all scared to death for you,โ A tear trickled from the corner of Jonathanโs eye.
Teresa was at a loss as Jonathan pulled her into his arms, still looking a little out of it. Miriam, standing beside her, patted Teresaโs shoulder and said, โTeresa, you had a premature birth. Thank goodness youโre alright now!โ
Those words jolted Teresa back to her senses. She suddenly remembered that she had a premature birth. She suddenly pushed Jonathan away and blurted out anxiously, โWhereโs our baby? Is the baby okay?!โ
โThe babyโs in the incubator. Heโs doing great,โ Jonathan replied.
โReally?โ Teresa asked, her voice still full of doubt.
Jonathan nodded firmly.
Miriam chimed in, โI can vouch for that too. The babyโs fine. Edwardโs with Mike, watching over their baby brother. Iโll go get Mike now.โ
As soon as Miriam left, Jonathan couldnโt stop himself and pulled Teresa into his arms again. It felt like only by holding her could he remember what it meant to be alive.
He hadnโt slept a wink in three days, but he didnโt feel tired at all. He was terrified that if he closed his eyes, he might lose her forever.
Teresaโs breathing grew a little rapid as she gradually started to come to her senses. She remembered it was Yalena who caused her to go into labor early. If not for that, the baby wouldnโt have been due for another two months.
And then Teresa thought of Lucas. She clutched Jonathanโs arm, almost frantic. โWhat about Lucas? Did you find him? Is he okay? Is he still alive?โ
โWe found him. Heโs in stable condition now. The police did an injury assessment and determined he only suffered minor injuries. Right now, heโs recovering at Nareigh Hospital,โ Jonathan replied.
Teresa shook her head in disbelief. โNo. How could it just be minor injuries? Yalena got a bunch of guys to do such cruel things to him. Thereโs no way heโs just got minor injuries!โ Teresa completely lost it.
Jonathan pulled her into his arms, his heart aching for her. โWhat did Yalena tell you? Tell me, donโt be afraid. I swear, I wonโt let anything happen to you or your brother.โ
Teresa completely broke down, her whole body trembling uncontrollably. The photos Yalena had shown her, and every word sheโd said, kept replaying in Teresaโs mind.
โThe test must be wrong. Thereโs no way he only got off with minor injuries!โ Teresa cried out. She was so shattered that she couldnโt even bring herself to tell Jonathan the truth about what had happened to Lucas.
Jonathan knew all too well that if it were just some minor injuries, Teresa wouldnโt have been so traumatized that she went into premature labor just because of something small. There had to be something more to it.
He tried to soothe her. โCalm down, Teresa. According to the current test, your brother has soft tissue damage to his face, bleeding from his mouth and nose, and a fracture in his lower leg.
โI had Benny arrange for a second assessment, and the results were exactly the same.โ
