Chapter 957

Tears streamed down Teresaโ€™s face as she finally revealed the truth. โ€œMy brother has internal traumaโ€ฆโ€

โ€œInternal trauma?โ€ Jonathan echoed, his voice full of worry.

โ€œYeah,โ€ Teresa choked out, her whole body shaking, โ€œYalena told me herself. She got a bunch of men to do horrible things to Lucas. They even used all kinds of cruel tools on him. She ruined him!โ€

Jonathan froze, completely at a loss for words. If Yalena really had a bunch of men do that to Teresaโ€™s brother, there was no way two injury assessments missed something so serious.

Maybe Lucas was just too ashamed to say anything about it himself, or there might be more to it.

โ€œIโ€™m not letting Yalena off the hook. I need to get back to Nareigh right now,โ€ Teresa said, already trying to get out of bed.

โ€œJust calm down,โ€ Jonathan said, his heart twisting as he held her back. โ€œYou canโ€™t leave the hospital like this. Please, just rest. Iโ€™ll make sure that woman ends up behind bars.โ€

โ€œNo, I want to see her behind bars with my own eyes. And Iโ€™m going to make every single person who messed with me pay for it, one by one,โ€ Teresa said, her voice cold and determined.

She brushed off Jonathanโ€™s attempts to stop her and stubbornly swung her legs off the bed, determined to get up. But she was just too weak. She barely took a few steps before her legs gave out and she crumpled to the floor.

Jonathan rushed over and swept her up in his arms. Teresa was a mess, thrashing desperately in his hold. โ€œLet me go, Jonathan. I have to get back to Nareigh. I need to protect my family!โ€

โ€œAlright, weโ€™ll go back, but not right now. You need to get your strength back first,โ€ Jonathan said, trying to calm her down. He gently laid Teresa back on the bed and clasped her hand tightly in his.

โ€œIf you need to let it out, just hit me. I promise Iโ€™ll find out exactly what happened to your brother,โ€ he said, his voice steady and reassuring.

Teresa didnโ€™t want to hit Jonathan. She just wanted to go home.

Jonathan gently kept her in place with one hand while calling Benny with the other. He told Benny that Teresa had woken up, but she said Lucas had internal injuries.

Benny was no fool. He immediately understood what Jonathan was getting at. โ€œIโ€™m heading over to check on him right now. If anyone dares to stop me, Iโ€™ll get in there even if I have to pull every string Iโ€™ve got!โ€

Jonathan put the call on speaker and handed the phone to Teresa. โ€œYou heard him, right? Benny and I have known each other for years. You can trust him. If anything happens, heโ€™ll let us know right away.โ€

Teresa didnโ€™t say a word. She just couldnโ€™t pull herself together.

Benny heard her crying and jumped in, โ€œTeresa, itโ€™s me. Listen, if thereโ€™s something up with your brother, Iโ€™ll be straight with you. I wonโ€™t let him get humiliated or anything. You just focus on taking care of yourself. And donโ€™t go losing your cool like Jonathan didโ€“he nearly snapped and almost killed someone.โ€

Bennyโ€™s words managed to pull Teresa back from the edge, helping her calm down quite a bit. She snapped her gaze to Jonathan, but he didnโ€™t say a word.

After they hung up, Teresa asked Jonathan, โ€œWhat did Benny mean just now? What did he mean when he said you almost killed someone?โ€

โ€œItโ€™s nothing,โ€ Jonathan said curtly, clearly not wanting to get into it. He avoided her gaze, making it obvious he had no intention of explaining.

โ€œTeresa, let me speak for Jonathan,โ€ Gary said as he stepped into the room. No one knew how long heโ€™d been standing at the door, but now he strode over with determined steps.

โ€œIโ€™m so sorry, Teresa. This was my oversight. Jonathan trusted me to keep you both safe, and I let him down. Yalena made you go into premature labor, and Jonathan was so furious he almost lost control and nearly killed her himself.โ€

Teresa froze for a moment. She glanced back at Jonathan, her eyes searching his face, full of confusion and doubt.
