Jonathan asked, โDoes Grandpa know about his illness?โ
Werner sighed. โOf course not. I wouldnโt dare tell him. Iโm worried he couldnโt take it.โ
Jonathan said, โIf Grandpaโs condition ever gets to the point where he canโt take care of himself, Iโll make sure he has the best medical team looking after him.โ
Werner held Jonathanโs hand. โJonathan, itโs a relief to have you as the backbone of the family. That puts my mind at ease. But he keeps thinking about Teresa having the baby.โ
Jonathan was dying to tell Werner that Teresa had already given birth. But this definitely wasnโt the right moment. Even if he was going to say it, heโd wait until Teresa and the baby were home safe and sound.
If Werner found out the baby was born prematurely, it would definitely be a shock to him. โTeresa hasnโt had the baby yet. Sheโs not due for another two months,โ Jonathan said.
Werner nodded. โThen the baby should just take your last name.โ
Jonathan shrugged. โDoes it really matter if the baby has my last name or Teresaโs?โ
Werner clicked his tongue in surprise. โYouโve got this huge company. Thereโs gotta be an heir, right? If the kid doesnโt share your name, people might not accept it. And your mom probably wonโt go for it either.โ
Jonathan honestly didnโt care about any of that anymore. โI built this company from the ground up. However many kids I have, theyโll all inherit it together. The shares will be split evenly,โ Jonathan said.
โItโs your Grandpaโs wish. Iโve already given up hope that Donald will ever have a kid. Youโre the only one in the family with two children. Even though you and Teresa arenโt really remarried, at least let one of your kids carry your name.โ
Turned out even Werner knew about this now. Jonathan asked him, โWho told you?โ
Werner replied, โTeresa told me.โ
Jonathanโs face suddenly darkened. โSo she really wants to draw the line with me, huh? We agreed to wait three months before telling everyone, but now that Teresa had the baby early, she canโt wait to make things clear between us?โ
Just then, Jonathanโs phone rang.
It was Gary, calling to let him know the babyโs household registration was done and the babyโs name was Felix.
After hanging up, Jonathan turned to Werner. โWerner, if Grandpa asks, just tell him the babyโs name is Felix, thatโs all he needs to know. Iโve got some work to take care of at the company, so Iโll head out now.โ
โJonathan, stay for dinner,โ Werner said.
โNo, itโs alright. Maybe next time,โ Jonathan got in his car and drove away. On the way to the company, Jonathan couldnโt help himself anymore. He picked up his phone and called Teresa.
Teresa drew in a sharp breath. โDid Werner just tell you I talked to him, or did he mention how he begged me to let the baby have your last name?โ
Teresa had made up her mind that from now on, she was going to speak up about everything. She wasnโt going to bottle things up anymore, and she sure wasnโt going to let herself get all twisted up inside.
โWerner came to my place and said heโd get down on his knees if I didnโt agree to let the baby have your last name. What was I supposed to say?โ Teresa said.
Jonathan was caught off guard. โI had no idea. He never told me that.โ
Teresaโs voice was raspy. โWell, now you know. Hissโฆโ
Jonathan immediately noticed something was wrong with Teresa and hurriedly asked, โWhatโs wrong? Are you feeling unwell?โ
โIโm fine,โ Teresa replied.
โIf youโre fine, then why do you sound so out of breath when you talk? Whatโs really going on?โ Jonathan pressed.
