Chapter 963
Whether Lucas was lying or there was more to the story, Jonathan told him to insist that he was badly hurt. โYou canโt be so honest in front of those who bully you, or youโll only hurt those who love you,โ Jonathan said.
โWhat do you mean, Jonathan?โ Lucas asked.
Jonathan explained that Teresa had gone into premature labor because of Lucasโs situation. If they let Yalena off easily, Teresa wouldnโt be satisfied, and neither would Jonathan.
Lucas thought for a moment and asked, โSo what do you want me to do?โ
โYou donโt need to do anything. Just stay in the hospital and let me handle the rest. As long as you stay in the hospital, no one can say youโre fine,โ Jonathan replied.
As for the results of the injury assessment, they could just say the internal injuries werenโt found in the first two tests because Lucas hadnโt shown any symptoms yet. Jonathan would handle the rest.
Lucas nodded. โAlright, Iโll do as you say.โ
โYou have to trust me. Showing mercy to your enemies is just being cruel to yourself,โ Jonathan said.
โAlright, I get it. Iโll do as you say, my brother-in-law,โ Lucas said.
The way Lucas called him โbrother-in-lawโ caught Jonathan off guard for a moment. Lucas still didnโt know that Jonathan and Teresa hadnโt remarried, and Jonathan didnโt bother to explain.
Lucas then asked, โBy the way, whatโs your kidโs name with Teresa? Is the baby going to have your last name?โ
โHeโll take his momโs last name. His name is Felix,โ Jonathan replied.
โHuh? Is your family really okay with that?โ Lucas asked, thinking Jonathanโs family probably wouldnโt be that open-minded.
Jonathan stuck one hand in his pocket, looking calm. โWhether they agree or not doesnโt matter to me. I honestly donโt care what last name my kid has.โ
Just then, Lucasโs phone suddenly rang. It was a call from Evelyn. โLucas, Isabel and I are already on the plane. Iโll come see you,โ Evelyn said.
โMom, Iโm fine. Just be careful on your way,โ Lucas replied.
Evelyn then asked about Teresa, and Jonathan, standing nearby, subtly shook his head at Lucas.
Lucas said, โMom, Teresa is doing well. Sheโs just resting and taking care of herself and the baby.โ
After hanging up, Lucas told Jonathan that Evelyn had contacted him a few days ago, saying she was coming back to see him, and he hadnโt mentioned Teresaโs premature birth to her.
โYeah, donโt tell Evelyn yet. Once the baby is out of the incubator, Iโll take Teresa and the baby back to Nareigh. Then your whole family can be together,โ Jonathan said.
Lucas nodded.
After leaving the hospital, Jonathan went to see Hayden.
Hayden was in great spirits. He grabbed his cane and gave Jonathan a light smack. โYou little rascal, why are you back by yourself? Whereโs Teresa?โ
Jonathan replied, โTeresa is focusing on her pregnancy right now. Sheโll come visit you after the baby is born.โ He walked over to Werner, who showed him Haydenโs medical diagnosis.
โJonathan, I was planning to tell you all later, but since you already know, I wonโt keep it from you. Hayden was diagnosed with Alzheimerโs a month ago,โ Werner said.
Jonathan glanced down at the diagnosis, his heart heavy.
This kind of illness just kept getting worse. The patient would start forgetting things, then faces, and some people even forget how to eat, drink, or go to the bathroom. There was no way to stop it, and no cure.
Jonathanโs grandfather, Gordon, was a textbook example. The disease slowly tormented him and everyone around him, causing all sorts of complications until it finally took his life.
Now that Hayden had been diagnosed with this disease, it meant the clock was ticking for him.
