Whether Lucas was lying or there was more to the story, Jonathan told him to insist that he was badly hurt. “You can’t be so honest in front of those who bully you, or you’ll only hurt those who love you,” Jonathan said.

“What do you mean, Jonathan?” Lucas asked.

Jonathan explained that Teresa had gone into premature labor because of Lucas’s situation. If they let Yalena off easily, Teresa wouldn’t be satisfied, and neither would Jonathan.

Lucas thought for a moment and asked, “So what do you want me to do?”

“You don’t need to do anything. Just stay in the hospital and let me handle the rest. As long as you stay in the hospital, no one can say you’re fine,” Jonathan replied.

As for the results of the injury assessment, they could just say the internal injuries weren’t found in the first two tests because Lucas hadn’t shown any symptoms yet. Jonathan would handle the rest.

Lucas nodded. “Alright, I’ll do as you say.”

“You have to trust me. Showing mercy to your enemies is just being cruel to yourself,” Jonathan said.

“Alright, I get it. I’ll do as you say, my brother-in-law,” Lucas said.

The way Lucas called him “brother-in-law” caught Jonathan off guard for a moment. Lucas still didn’t know that Jonathan and Teresa hadn’t remarried, and Jonathan didn’t bother to explain.

Lucas then asked, “By the way, what’s your kid’s name with Teresa? Is the baby going to have your last name?”

“He’ll take his mom’s last name. His name is Felix,” Jonathan replied.

“Huh? Is your family really okay with that?” Lucas asked, thinking Jonathan’s family probably wouldn’t be that open-minded.

Jonathan stuck one hand in his pocket, looking calm. “Whether they agree or not doesn’t matter to me. I honestly don’t care what last name my kid has.”

Just then, Lucas’s phone suddenly rang. It was a call from Evelyn. “Lucas, Isabel and I are already on the plane. I’ll come see you,” Evelyn said.

“Mom, I’m fine. Just be careful on your way,” Lucas replied.

Evelyn then asked about Teresa, and Jonathan, standing nearby, subtly shook his head at Lucas.

Lucas said, “Mom, Teresa is doing well. She’s just resting and taking care of herself and the baby.”

After hanging up, Lucas told Jonathan that Evelyn had contacted him a few days ago, saying she was coming back to see him, and he hadn’t mentioned Teresa’s premature birth to her.

“Yeah, don’t tell Evelyn yet. Once the baby is out of the incubator, I’ll take Teresa and the baby back to Nareigh. Then your whole family can be together,” Jonathan said.

Lucas nodded.

After leaving the hospital, Jonathan went to see Hayden.

Hayden was in great spirits. He grabbed his cane and gave Jonathan a light smack. “You little rascal, why are you back by yourself? Where’s Teresa?”

Jonathan replied, “Teresa is focusing on her pregnancy right now. She’ll come visit you after the baby is born.” He walked over to Werner, who showed him Hayden’s medical diagnosis.

“Jonathan, I was planning to tell you all later, but since you already know, I won’t keep it from you. Hayden was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s a month ago,” Werner said.

Jonathan glanced down at the diagnosis, his heart heavy.

This kind of illness just kept getting worse. The patient would start forgetting things, then faces, and some people even forget how to eat, drink, or go to the bathroom. There was no way to stop it, and no cure.

Jonathan’s grandfather, Gordon, was a textbook example. The disease slowly tormented him and everyone around him, causing all sorts of complications until it finally took his life.

Now that Hayden had been diagnosed with this disease, it meant the clock was ticking for him.
