Chapter 133: What Could You Do

โ€œDiana, donโ€™t be impulsive,โ€ Caroline said, still pretending to try to stop Diana, but actually pretending to walk slowly like a turtle. Claire stood on the second-floor stairs, leaning on the railing, waiting for Diana and Caroline to come rushing up. Of course, she could hear Carolineโ€™s voice clearly. However, she didnโ€™t want to care if Caroline meant it or not; she was so tired of living inside that prison for the past four years. Claire couldnโ€™t last much longer; sheโ€™d only gotten out with her grandmotherโ€™s help. She had thought she could escape all that pain once she got out of prison.

Besides, Claire never wanted anything more than to live a simple life. No matter if it was a rich girl, true love, or Frederick, she didnโ€™t want anything anymore. But she couldnโ€™t even fulfill such a simple wish, as if this was just the way the world was, and kind people were always bullied. So why should Claire care about anything else? She hadโ€ฆ

Since Claire and Frederick had shown their cards, the situation was so much better than before, wasnโ€™t it? Claire now thought that when a person was weak, people would think they were a pushover and try to bully them. What were Diana and Caroline? If it were in the past, when Claire was in the Prescott family, she wouldnโ€™t even give them a second glance. When they said the wrong thing, Claire would make them shut up with a slap.

โ€œClaire, youโ€™re a bitch. You seduced Frederick and did such a shameless thing. How dare you look at me like that? Do you want to die?โ€ Seeing that Claire was so careless and didnโ€™t take her seriously, Diana directly slapped Claire. Claire sneered and looked over with a stern look. โ€œDiana, look, you should have thought about the consequences after you slapped me like that.โ€

โ€œWell, consequences? Thatโ€™s ridiculous. Consequences for what? I did hit you, so what are you going to do?โ€ Diana sneered, thinking it was truly hilarious for Claire to say that. Caroline had already told Diana that the only reason Claire could stay by Frederickโ€™s side was an excuse. Even if Diana had just killed Claire today, what would Frederick have done? That was just a woman Frederick didnโ€™t love. What could her second brother do to her? She was just a woman he didnโ€™t care about.

โ€œHow can I? Hahaโ€ฆ Diana, thatโ€™s the best joke Iโ€™ve heard since I got out of jail. It wonโ€™t matter if youโ€™re stupid, and Iโ€™ll teach you a good lesson today.โ€ Claire turned around, leaned gently against the railing, and looked up at Caroline and Diana. Later, Claire was telling both Diana and Caroline something. Claire wanted to let the two women know that they would never bother her again, and she didnโ€™t want to argue with them again.

โ€œItโ€™ll be fine if you know about the slums, but if you donโ€™t, just turn on your cell phone and look it up. See what the Internet is saying about me right now. Also, after reading it, ask Arthur, Frederick, or your parents how important I truly am to Frederick today. Frederick is in the thick of the competition for President right now, and Iโ€™ve become the well-known woman beside him. What do you think he can do if something happens to me? He was wicked and killed the woman beside him? Or the woman beside him was killed by his own sister? Or maybe he canโ€™t even protect the woman beside him before he becomesโ€ฆโ€

โ€œNow let alone you doing something to me, even if you slap me and I take a picture of it, do you believe itโ€™ll be on the headlines tomorrow in no time? What do you think this news means to the Hawthorne family, which has been in politics for generations? As the daughter of the Hawthorne family, even if youโ€™re stupid, you wonโ€™t be unaware of this, right?โ€

As Claire finished speaking, Diana and Caroline looked at each other in disbelief, no longer having anything to say. The two did hear about what happened in the slums earlier, but they didnโ€™t even think it would end up like this. Caroline was even more frightened after hearing this. If this were true, everything she had spent the last four years working on would be over.

โ€œClaire, I think you should be honest. If thatโ€™s true, why wonโ€™t Frederick pick you up and take you back to the Halfmoon Manor?โ€ Caroline didnโ€™t care how important Claire was to Frederick, and she didnโ€™t want to care about anything regarding the Hawthorne family. She wanted to instigate Diana to do something to Claire right now, and Diana had better get annoyed and just push Claire down the stairs to her death. If that happened, it would have nothing to do with Caroline. Anyway, it was all Dianaโ€™s doing. She could stay out of it, and even more so, she could pretend to be innocent and stay withโ€ฆ
