Chapter 134: Did Claire Save Diana?
Diana immediately flew into a rage upon hearing Carolineโs words. As the daughter of the Hawthorne family, she had always been arrogant.
โClaire, donโt be an alarmist. Youโre just a bitch the Prescott family didnโt want, and even your mother was an unseemly thief who stole the Prescott familyโs daughterโs identity for you. Your father was even a worthless gamble. All your family are despicable. What are you so proud of?โ
Diana pointed at Claireโs nose and scolded her furiously.
โSo what if it were the Prescott family? So what if my mother were a thief? None of that matters to me nowadays, and I rely on my abilities and my dignity. Youโve already said I was so inferior, and Frederick asked me to stay with him, so Iโm capable. What about you? What are you if you leave the Hawthorne family?โ
Claire raised her eyebrows, not caring in the slightest. After enduring four years in prison and navigating a place as shady as Eclipse Nightclub, Dianaโs words were nothing to Claire.
Diana hadnโt expected Claire to be so arrogant, and she couldnโt say a word in retort for a moment. She remembered Claire being so cautious, timid, and fearful the last time sheโd seen her at Halfmoon Manor, but why was she so articulate now?
โWhatโs wrong with me? Canโt you refute me? Get out! Donโt bother me again!โ
Claire had just recovered and was finally out of the hospital. She was already tired after being tortured by Frederick last night, so she was quite tired of dealing with Diana and Caroline.
โClaire, how can you talk like that? Youโve gone too far.โ
The more overbearing Claire became, the more worried Caroline felt. What would they do if Claire returned to Halfmoon Manor?
Caroline spoke, thinking carefully about Claireโs current position. She saw Claire relaxing against the railing, and an idea struck her. Wouldnโt it be easy for Claire to fall in her current posture?
Caroline smiled smugly. Saying that, she pretended to be excited and stepped forward, using the inertia of her body to shove Diana toward Claire, who was leaning on the railing.
But Caroline was too stupid to overdo it. Claire had even studied at the Underground Boxing Ringโcould she not dodge a little trick? At that moment, Claire quickly ducked. Caroline had used almost all of her bodyโs strength. Diana was caught off guard, didnโt hit Claire, lost her footing, tripped, and went over the railing.
It was a fancy duplex apartment with high floors; the second floor was the height of the third floor of an ordinary building. Diana hit her head on impact. If Diana fell, sheโd land on her head. Even if she wouldnโt die, sheโd be a fool or brain-dead.
โAh?โ
Diana had lived a pampered life since she was a little girl. Falling from a building was something sheโd never even been close to experiencing. Looking at such a great height, she screamed in fear.
Luckily, Claire moved in time, pulling her by one foot. Diana staggered in front of the railing, closing her eyes tightly as her whole body shivered. It wasnโt until she felt a hand grab her foot that she bravely opened her eyes and looked back.
โWhy did you save me?โ
Seeing it was Claire, Diana was stunned for a long moment before asking.
โIf the daughter of the Hawthorne family had died in my place, I would have suffered. Youโve already said I have nothing and no support right now, havenโt you?โ
Claire smiled and yanked Diana up with a firm tug.
โDonโt think Iโll be grateful just because you saved me.โ
Diana covered her heart and sat at the railing. It took her a long time to calm down and look over at Claire.
โGrateful? Well, do you think I need it?โ Claire crouched down in front of Diana. Claire just wanted to laugh; she never thought Diana would appreciate it. After all, four years ago, Diana almost got Claire killed over Annaโs death.
Claire could see clearly what had just happened and that Caroline was the one who had started it. She looked back to Caroline after she finished speaking to Diana.
โI just need you to know that Iโm not a pushover. Since I can save you, I can also get you killed.โ
She was answering Diana, but it was Caroline she was threatening.
โDiana, letโs go.โ
Seeing the fierce, murderous intent in Claireโs eyes, Caroline was truly scared this time, thinking about how fast Claireโฆ
โBye,โ
Claire patted the dirt on her body and headed for food.
Wendy, who was in the doorway, watched as Caroline and Diana made their way safely down the stairs. It was only after she heard the door slam from the doorway that she finally calmed down and kept taking deep breaths. Wendy came back to her senses and hurriedly called Frederick to tell him all about it.
โWhat did you say? Did Claire save Diana?โ
