Chapter 344: Impossible
Diana and Caroline agreed this was the best plan. After discussing the details, they went directly to the hospital to check the results. Of course, Caroline alone wouldn't have been able to access them; she needed Claire. But with Diana, it was different. As the daughter of the Hawthorne family, obtaining hospital results was effortless.
From Halfmoon Manor to the hospital and back, the entire process took only two hours. When they finally saw the results, both women were stunned.
โWhat? Impossible! How could she not be pregnant?โ Caroline reacted first. Her shock was evident.
โCaroline, whatโs going on? Are you sure Claire is pregnant?โ Diana asked.
โIโm not 100% sure,โ Caroline stammered. โBut yesterday, when she threw up, all the servants in the villa were saying she must be pregnant. Plus, sheโs been clinging to Frederick lately, so I just assumedโฆโ She was full of guilt.
โIt doesnโt matter,โ Diana said after a moment. โWhether sheโs pregnant or not, Claire doesnโt know the results yet. If her belly hurts, wonโt she assume somethingโs wrong with the baby she thinks sheโs carrying? Weโll stick to the original plan. Donโt worry about it.โ Anyway, it wouldn't affect their plan.
โYouโre right, Diana. Youโre so clever,โ Caroline smiled, showering Diana with praise.
โLetโs hurry back and get this done quickly,โ Diana said. โThe longer we wait, the more complicated it could get. If Frederick comes back, itโll be even harder to deal with.โ
She crumpled the test results, tore them to shreds, and tossed them in the trash.
โOkay.โ Caroline nodded.
The two then headed back to Halfmoon Manor. On the way, they used their phones to search for medicines that could cause belly pain. Stopping by a pharmacy, they casually purchased one of the options they found.
By the time they returned to the villa, it was 11:30 a.m. The servants had just finished preparing lunch and were about to take the food down to the basement.
โHey, wait. Where are you taking that food? Didnโt you see Miss Hawthorne is here?โ Caroline called out, stepping forward to make a fuss.
โExactly. Iโm here, and youโre not serving me first? Where is this food going?โ Diana chimed in.
The maid lowered her head and explained respectfully, โMiss Hawthorne, this food is for the basement. General Hawthorne instructed us to send it down yesterday.โ
As the maid was distracted, Caroline discreetly added the medicine to the food.
โOh, itโs for the basement. Fine, go ahead then,โ Diana said, waving her hand once she saw Caroline had finished.
The maid took the food to the basement, while Diana and Caroline went to the dining room to have their meal. With such an important task ahead, they needed to fill their stomachs first.
After they finished eating, they checked the time. It was 12:30. They figured Claire should have eaten by then, but the medicine would take at least half an hour to kick in.
Diana gave Caroline a knowing look before sitting on the living room sofa. She grabbed the remote, turned on the TV, and selected a drama to pass the time.
Sure enough, about half an hour later, before the first episode even ended, a maid ran upstairs from the basement in a panic.
โSomethingโs wrong!โ she shouted, rushing into the living room. Her voice stopped abruptly when she saw Diana and Caroline.
Diana feigned ignorance. โWhy are you in such a panic? Whatโs happened?โ
โMiss Hawthorne, Miss Caroline, you need to come quickly. Ms. Prescott is having severe belly pain,โ the maid explained anxiously, rushing over to them.
โWhat? Belly pain? How could that happen? What did you give Claire to eat? Donโt you know sheโs carrying Frederickโs child?โ Caroline gasped, standing up dramatically and rushing toward the basement.
