Chapter 386: The Truth Revealed
“Grandpa, isn’t she the girl you saved before?” Henry said, somewhat surprised when he saw Claire’s face.
“Yes, but saving her is more important. We’ll talk later.”
Ezra nodded and looked at the doctor. “Doctor, I’m Rh-negative. Let’s start the blood transfusion quickly.”
Ten minutes later, Ezra lay on the bed, watching the unconscious Claire beside him. He smiled with a furrowed brow, realizing this was already the third time he had saved her. It seemed quite coincidental. He, indeed, had taken a liking to her from the first moment he saw her. He also wanted to have a granddaughter, but he knew she was not.
Ezra genuinely hoped that Claire could live a safe and trouble-free life forever.
Before long, the blood transfusion was completed. Ezra felt it only took a few seconds, and the process was already finished.
“That’s it?” Ezra got up to ask the doctor. “Can’t we give her more? She is still unconscious.”
“It’s enough, sir. She wasn’t in any real danger. With your age, if we continued to draw your blood, it would be a problem for you.”
“Good, that’s good.” Ezra turned around and walked out of the VIP room, a bit relieved.
When Elizabeth saw Ezra, she hurriedly got up and approached him. “Thank you so much. You have saved my granddaughter.”
“Don’t mention it. That child is destined to know me. This is already the third time I have given my blood to her.”
Ezra gave a shy smile while glancing inside the room at Claire, his eyes filled with tender affection.
“The third time?” Elizabeth was surprised to know such a thing.
“Yes. The first time, my grandfather saved her near Moon Lake in Kingstown. The second time was at the bottom of a cliff, and the third time was…” Henry chimed in.
However, Frederick interrupted him immediately. “What did you say? At the bottom of a cliff?”
Frederick thought of the incident when Claire and Antony went missing together. After Claire returned, she claimed that Caroline had pushed her and Antony off the cliff. At that time, Frederick firmly believed that Claire and Antony were eloping and didn’t trust her words at all.
The cliff incident had also been the trigger for a series of events that followed. Without Claire’s fall, he wouldn’t have locked her in the basement, and Claire wouldn’t have had the car accident that Arthur rescued her from.
“Yes. My grandfather lived in the mountains with his grandfather for a while when he was young. It was in Wits Mountain near Kingstown. The scenery at the foot of that mountain is stunning.”
“If one looks down from the top of the mountain, it’s a very deep cliff, but because of that, it has preserved the most primitive biological environment. So my grandfather would stay there for some time almost every one or two years.”
“What’s wrong? Mr. Hawthorne, do you know that place too? Oh, right, I’m confused. Ms. Prescott is your fiancée. She had fallen off a cliff before, so you certainly know about it.”
Henry explained but then recalled Frederick’s relationship with Claire and felt he had overstepped. As a member of the Titan family, Henry knew about Frederick and Claire’s history, and the bad blood between the Hawthorne family and the Prescott family. But the Titan family had only moved to Kingstown from overseas five years ago. He’d only heard the names but never met them.
After hearing Henry’s words, Frederick didn’t say anything further. He just stared straight at Claire in the room. He thought, “So, everything Claire said was true. I really misunderstood her.”
At this thought, Frederick was suddenly jolted. “Then what’s Caroline’s purpose…”
Frederick quickly took out his phone and sent a message to Richard:
