He turned to Elizabeth, hesitating. “Elizabeth, there’s something I need to ask, but I’m not sure if I should.”
“Oh, stop being so coy! You saved my granddaughter, so out with it. Though knowing you, it’s probably nothing good. If that’s the case, don’t bother,” Elizabeth rolled her eyes, chuckling. She thought to herself, “This guy hasn’t changed a bit after all these years.” Back in the day, it was just because he was too upright, stuck to etiquette, and too rigid that Elizabeth and Ezra hadn’t ended up together.
“It isn’t bad at all. I just feel that I have such a strong connection with Claire. We even have the same blood type. Would you allow me to be Claire’s godfather?”
Ezra couldn’t hide his affection for Claire. After saving her at the bottom of the cliff and spending some time living together, he liked her even more.

Elizabeth burst into laughter. Ezra couldn’t help but let out a helpless sigh. “Alright then.”
Elizabeth’s words left him without a counterargument. He thought it was nobody’s fault but his own. He hadn’t been brave enough back in the day to seize the opportunity to marry Elizabeth. Otherwise, Claire would have been his real granddaughter now. Ezra lamented that everything was predestined.

“You’re such a good boy, Henry, coming to see me so often. But that scoundrel Leon? God knows what he’s up to all day. Sometimes I don’t see his face for weeks.”

Ezra squeezed Henry’s hand, but thinking of his son Leon made him furious. Watching Ezra’s hunched figure, Elizabeth couldn’t help but ask, “Aren’t you going to wait for Claire to wake up before you leave?”
