Chapter 93: Let Me Go
Claireโs heart tightened, and her movements froze. She was familiar with this voice, but she hadnโt expected it to sound at this time. Claire looked up and clearly saw the gloom in Frederickโs eyes.
Frederick had come to the hospital to visit an elder. A few days ago, an elder in the Hawthorne family had fallen ill. Unexpectedly, he arrived at the hospital and happened to see Claire and Antony. Antony was also stunned when he saw Frederick; he recognized him immediately.
After all, the last time, Claire had driven him away because of Frederick. Antony raised his eyebrows slightly, then let go of Claireโs chin, stood up, and looked at Frederick. Instantly, the atmosphere became very tense. The moment their eyes met, sparks seemed to fly.
Frederick smiled coldly, thinking, โItโs the first time someone dared to look at me with such a provocative look. Very good!โ His eyes told him his relationship with Claire was not simple. Not to mention just nowโฆ
Frederick remembered that Antony was about to kiss Claire and unconsciously clenched his fists, wanting to shoot Antony. Antony looked at Frederick and thought, โHe must be the man Claire has loved for many years. He must be the man who sent Claire to prison.โ Then, Antonyโs eyes were instantly filled with murderous intent.
The two of them didnโt say a word, but Claire sensed a strong, breathless tension. She looked up and saw Frederickโs hand on the pistol at his waist. She immediately panicked. Claire hurriedly urged Antony, โYou can leave now. I am fine now, and nothing will happen to me.โ
โWhat?โ frowned Antony, very surprised. He had never thought that Claire would actually let him go at this moment. Antony thought, โWe have been getting along very well in the hospital these days, and Claire said that she would give me a chance. Why did she immediately chase me away when this man came?โ
โDidnโt you see Frederick coming? Why are you still here? Do you really think I like you? Itโs you who has liked me all along. You are just wishful thinking. How could I possibly like you? During these past few days, I just said a few nice words to you because I had no one to take care of me in the hospital. You donโt really think I like you, do you? How funny!โ
Claire was afraid that Antony would say something else, so she spoke first and blocked all of Antonyโs words. She knew that as long as Frederick wanted to investigate, he could find out in minutes about Antony and her affairs, as well as everything that Antony had silently contributed behind her back when they were in high school.
But even though Claire had said something so humiliating, Antony still couldnโt believe it. He just stood there, staring at Claire motionlessly, without saying a single word. โWhatโs wrong? Do you want me to call the paramedics? Or do you want me to call the police and report you for harassing me?โ
Claireโs eyes were filled with sadness. She felt reluctant, but she had no choice now. โOkay. Iโm leaving.โ Antonyโs heart seemed to be struck by a hammer. Claireโs last words made Antony thoroughly disappointed.
He knew that Claire had always loved someone and knew that person came from a well-off family. But he didnโt know what that person did explicitly. Antony didnโt even know that Frederick had been promoted to general and was in charge of Kingstownโs security department, nor did he know how dangerous Frederick was. Naturally, he would not think that Claire was doing this to protect him.
Antony nodded and left the ward without looking back. At that moment, Claire hurt his heart, his dignity, and all his efforts over the years badly. Claire had said that she would give him a chance. He was indeed ecstatic about it. But now, she saw Frederick and immediately forgot all about him.
Antony thought, โShe loves him so much. Even though he sent her to prison, she still loves him so much. Thatโs great!โ Antony left. Frederick saw Claire driving Antony away and knew that they were not what he thought. The anger and irritability in his heart dissipated a lot. However, the scene of him entering the ward just now still lingered in his mind.
โIf you really like Antony, I can give you a chance. You can chase him out now.โ Frederick took a few steps forward, staring at Claire intently and carefully observing her reaction. โWhat?โ Claire was shocked. She hadnโt expected Frederick to say that. She thought, โIs he going to let me go?โ
