Chapter 94: Only One Chance
โClaire, you have only one chance. Get out of here now before I change my mind!โ
When Frederick thought about Claire and Antony living together, the anger in his heart began to rise. Claire lay there, almost unable to believe her ears, and stared at Frederick in amazement.
She thought, โI canโt believe heโs letting me go. Doesnโt he need me to take the bullet for Caroline? Now, I havenโt done it once.โ
To be honest, Claire was hesitant at that moment. She wanted to live a good life now, and she really dreamed of escaping Frederickโs control.
Claire wondered if Frederick would really let her go if she said yes. She opened her mouth subconsciously. Just as she was about to say yes, Frederickโs phone rang. It was a call from Caroline.
โHey, Frederick.โ
Claire didnโt hear what was said on the phone. She only heard Carolineโs voice. Frederick frowned and walked out of the ward with the phone.
Carolineโs voice woke Claire up. The tragic death of Anna four years agoโhow she had prayed and fainted, and how she had been sent to prison and tortured to be completely exhaustedโall of this was like the surging sea, swallowing up Claire in an instant.
Frederick hated her so much. How could he let her go? But why did Frederick let her and Antony leave? Claire thought that maybe because Frederick saw Antony being so intimate with her, he wanted to test her reaction. She and Frederick had no relationship and had never been together. But that night, she had become his woman. To Frederick, as long as it was his, he would never allow others to touch it.
Thinking of this, Claire suppressed the urge to escape. A few minutes later, Frederick came back after finishing his call.
โHave you decided?โ Frederick continued to ask her.
โYes. Frederick, if you want to let me go, I will be grateful. But all this has nothing to do with Antony. He is just my high school classmate. He said he likes me. But who knows if he really likes me or just likes my identity as a member of the Prescott family? Besides, I am no longer a member of the Prescott family.โ
Claire didnโt want to implicate Antony, so she said more words. Frederick saw Claire like this and was stunned.
He thought, โClaire was arrogant, simple-minded, and didnโt think about anything back then. Now, how come she considers so much and is so thorough? Especially her last sentence. It sounded so humble.โ
Frederick subconsciously felt sorry for Claire and said unconsciously, โWhy are you hospitalized for no reason?โ
โI was out for a walk on Christmas Eve and accidentally fell into the lake.โ
Claire hadnโt expected Frederick to care about her suddenly. But she didnโt mention that Caroline and Diana were responsible. She just said it casually. She knew that Frederick would not believe it even if she told him, and it might make him angry and cause other troubles. So why bother?
โReally? Did you fall into the lake accidentally, or do you want to kill Caroline like you killed Anna four years ago?โ
Even so, Frederick still didnโt believe Claire. All he could think about was Christmas Eve when Caroline told him that Claire had asked her to go to Moon Lake.
