Chapter 5

Anna remained on the diet, but after a while, she no longer wanted to continue the charade.

“It’s late. I’m going home.”

Jonathan also stood, prepared to leave, but his friends quickly stopped him.

“Your wife isn’t feeling well and needs to rest. We haven’t seen you in a long time; you can’t leave just yet!”

“Yeah, let your wife go back to her beauty sleep. Stay and have some fun with us!”

Anna gently pulled her hand from Jonathan’s grip and calmly said, “The driver will take me home. You stay.”

As soon as she finished speaking, she turned and left, walking so quickly that Jonathan didn’t have time to stop her.

Not long after the car drove off, Anna found a phone in her coat pocket that wasn’t hers. It was Jonathan’s phone. She immediately decided to return it to him.

When the car stopped outside the bar, Anna saw Isabella getting out of a taxi. Isabella was busy checking her makeup on her phone, not paying attention to where she was going, and headed straight for a private room. Anna instinctively tightened her grip on the phone and followed Isabella. Isabella stopped at the very private room where Jonathan was.

As soon as she entered, Isabella threw herself into Jonathan’s arms. He instinctively wrapped his arms around her waist and lovingly adjusted her hair. “You came so quickly?”

Isabella leaned against his shoulder, playfully smiling. “I missed you! As soon as I got your call, I finished up.”

Jonathan chuckled. “Well, then you should be rewarded.” He kissed her passionately on the lips, and their kiss quickly deepened.

“Alright, alright, stop showing off!” His friends, unsurprised, teased them with amused laughter.

Anna stood outside the door, watching through a crack, feeling an icy chill run through her body. Everyone knew about Jonathan and Isabella; they were all just acting.

“Jonathan, now that Isabella’s here, can we play some more intense games?”

His friends raised their eyebrows and clapped, calling over more women. Soon, everyone was holding a woman. The game was simple—spin the bottle; whoever it pointed to had to choose truth or dare. After several rounds, the bottle finally landed on Jonathan.

The group cheered; the atmosphere became increasingly intense.

“Jonathan, the last time was when?” The question was asked with an ambiguous smile, and everyone understood its meaning.

Jonathan raised an eyebrow and answered casually, “Yesterday, in the car.”

The room immediately erupted in shock.

“My god, that’s bold! How did it feel?”

Isabella’s face had turned bright red, and she buried her face in Jonathan’s chest. He smiled smugly and said, “She was very satisfying.”

“Haha, I told you, mistresses are more charming than wives!”

“Exactly! Jonathan, with our status, who doesn’t have a few on the side? As long as it’s kept quiet, we can enjoy life without any problems. Anna will never know.”

As they spoke, his friends casually kissed and touched their companions. But as soon as they mentioned Anna’s name, Jonathan’s smile vanished. His face darkened, and he sternly said, “Don’t mess around in front of Anna; you all know the consequences.”

“We won’t let her find out.”

Every word of their conversation reached Anna’s ears. The laughter from the room continued, but Anna felt completely numb, her body cold as ice. She didn’t even realize when her feet had gone numb, walking out like an empty shell, lost in thought.

The driver noticed something was wrong and hurried to approach her, but she stopped him before he could tell Jonathan.

“You don’t need to take me. I want to walk by myself. And don’t tell Jonathan I came back.”

She sent the driver away and then walked alone down an empty street. Suddenly, a heavy rain began to pour, but it felt as if she didn’t even notice. The rain only made her feel more awake, more alert. She didn’t know how long she had been walking—a long time, far longer than the night when she had sprained her ankle in the heavy snow. Jonathan had carried her all the way home…. She thought, true love can change in an instant.
