“I heard someone was messing with you…”
“You got yourself a girlfriend?”
The guy with the tattoos on his arms stopped and looked at me.
“It’s the first time I’ve seen a girl like this here…” He blushed.
He stood in front of me.
“Thanks, but it’s already handled. We can get drinks some other time.” He looked down.
“Are you trying to ditch your buddies now?” He turned his head. He was mad. He rubbed his head and pulled me to the side. “You can’t see? Go away.”
“Is she your girlfriend?”
“Does it look like it?”
“Yeah!”
“Good job.”
“I need some wedding candy.”
“We’ll see.”
I could hear them talking, even though they were trying to be quiet. To ease the tension, I acted busy and kept looking around.
After a few minutes, he left. Then he asked me, “Where do you live? I’ll take you back.”
I didn’t want to leave. My parents were always working, and they wouldn’t notice if I stayed somewhere else. Chad probably got reincarnated. He was probably with Tiffany right now. We were married for seven years, but he never let me come to any events, and never slept in the same room. He made me the joke of the town. I just wanted to leave him in the past.
I asked him, “Can I stay here for a few days?” I tugged on his jacket. He was a good guy. If I stayed here, would he turn me away?
He suddenly got close, looking at me with fire in his eyes.
“I might start thinking you’re serious about this…”
I could smell the soap on his body. I swallowed, and then I heard that voice.
“What are you doing?”
It was Chad… He brought the cops.
