“Are you okay?” Chad looked at me and seemed worried.
“Do I look like it?”
He didn’t say anything.
Tiffany walked in. She looked around the shop and asked, “How did you get away? There were six of them.”
What was she trying to say?
“Everyone knows that the two families wanted to get married, but also wanted that land. At the auction, the highest bidder wins.”
“But, at the worst time, this happened. Were you trying to hire them?”
Was she really saying that? I couldn’t believe it. I felt bad about what happened to Tiffany last time. But I saved her. And now she’s biting the hand that fed her.
I yelled, “Officer, she’s defaming me.”
We got taken away. Tiffany wouldn’t stop.
“Why can’t you say anything?”
“Why would I tell you? You’re not a cop.”
She didn’t know what to say. Chad stepped up to protect her.
“Ash, she wants to know so she knows what to say to the cops.”
“Are you guys trying to lie?”
Chad stood up and pointed at me. “You’re being ridiculous.” He came out and stood in front of me.
“Put your hand down.” He was serious. I stood behind him and smelled the tension.
Chad asked, “What are you to her?” He turned to me and smiled.
“What do you think?”
I gave him a heart. Chad looked mad.
A cop told him he had to do a report.
