Chapter 108

Miranda looked around the dark room. The silence was deafening. Thank God it was just a dream. However, she gasped for air, as if rescued from the ocean and desperately needing fresh air.

The wind chimes at the entrance tinkled as the night breeze blew. Miranda looked out and heard the waves clearly in the quiet night. Her palpitations from the nightmare persisted, preventing sleep. She put on a coat and went for a stroll.

The gentle sea breeze felt harsh in the middle of the night due to the low temperature. Miranda pulled her coat tighter and shuffled along the beach. The sky was starless, the infinite darkness illuminated only by a few seaside lamps.

Recalling the afternoon's events, she felt something was amiss. She had a gut feeling they had overlooked details. Everything seemed coincidental, but the simultaneity was peculiar. Tim insisted he was late to the rescue because he was in the restroom, but his confidence seemed almost deliberate.

Miranda stopped, looking up. By the shore, Sam talked on the phone, his back to her.

"Mr. Chaffey, given my friend's situation, how should we proceed?"

"Opt for mediation? Impossible. Filing an international lawsuit might be troublesome, but I don't mind. Let's proceed with it."

Sam knew why the hotel staff had behaved so arrogantly. This seven-star international hotel, located on the most strategically important island in Marvedis, hosted royalty. The staff certainly had the right to be pompous, but they had chosen to discriminate against the wrong person.

After ending the call, Sam was about to return to his room when he saw Miranda's profound eyes. Stunned, he smiled. "You're still awake?"

"Yeah. I couldn't sleep, so I decided to take a stroll."

The moist sea breeze felt cool on her face. She asked, "That call… Was it because of me?"

Sam nodded. "This incident happened overseas, so the legal procedures will be different. I've never handled anything like this, so I consulted a lawyer."

Miranda's lips tightened. She pointed to a 24/7 convenience store behind her. "Would you like something to drink? My treat."

Sam hadn't expected this, assuming she would avoid him as she had that afternoon. Surprise flickered across his eyes before he smiled graciously. "Sure."

He chose a bottle of [Type of drink], while Miranda asked for coconut water. They sat on beach chairs.

"Thank you," Miranda said.

Sam rubbed his finger against the bottle. "I'm glad you're not mad that I made decisions for you." He'd decided to have the company's legal department file an international lawsuit. As an involved party, Miranda had a right to know.

"Do I look ungrateful?" Miranda chuckled. "Besides, what happened today may not have been the first time. They were behaving oddly, not shocked at all. Their first action wasn't to comfort the client, but to excuse themselves from responsibility. In fact, they seemed familiar with it."

Sam listened silently. Then he pulled out a name card. "Someone may follow up with you. If there's any problem, call this number."
