Chapter 168

Everyone rushed upstairs, following the noise to Miranda’s bedroom. They found a chaotic scene. Quincey sat on the floor, two luxury bags scattered nearby. Seeing them, she burst into loud sobs, kicking wildly like a spoiled child.

Jenny rushed to her. “Quincey, what’s wrong? Don’t scare me. Come on, let’s get you up…”

“I won’t! I won’t get up unless Miranda apologizes!” Quincey screamed.

Miranda sneered. “Fine, then stay there. You can lie down too, if you like.”

Jenny’s eyes narrowed. “Apologize for what? Tell me, what happened?”

“Mom, Miranda hit me!”

Jenny’s eyes widened, turning to Miranda. “How could you hit her?”

Miranda replied, “Aunt Jenny, I’m so sorry. I heard noise from my closet when I returned. I thought a thief had broken in, so… But why was Quincey in my room? She seemed to be going through my things.”

Her gaze flicked to the bags on the floor.

Jenny’s expression changed. “I see… Quincey must have been curious, but you still shouldn’t have hit her!”

“I didn’t know it was Quincey. I genuinely thought it was a thief. After all, who rummages through someone else’s belongings during a visit?”

Jenny glared at her daughter. Quincey avoided her gaze, biting her lip in guilt.

Mindy smiled, trying to smooth things over. “It’s a misunderstanding. Let’s go downstairs and eat.”

A phone rang. Lionel, closest to it, said, “Miranda, can you get that?”

“Sure.” He accidentally answered it on speakerphone. Everyone heard Winter’s voice:

“Mimi, have you checked your score yet? Is it enough for Bedford College?”

Everyone was stunned.

“Mimi? Why aren’t you saying anything? Can you hear me? Hello? Hello!”

Miranda snatched the phone. “I was just about to check, but something came up.”

“Forget that, check your score! That’s more important!”

“Alright.”

All eyes were on Miranda after the call ended, including Quincey, still on the floor.

Lionel swallowed nervously. “Mimi, what score were you checking?”

“My postgraduate admission exam results.”

Mindy exclaimed, “You took the exam?”

“Yes.”

Jenny raised an eyebrow. “At your age?”

“Aunt Jenny, plenty of people in their 40s get master’s degrees. I’m not that old yet, am I?”

“Why did you suddenly decide to take it?” Jenny asked.

“Oh, for fun,” Miranda replied carelessly.

Jenny was speechless.

Rena smiled. “Are the results out today?” She looked at the nearby laptop. “It seems Mimi came up to check her results and found Quincey. You’re cousins; it’s fine now. Quincey, why don’t you get up?”

Quincey hesitated, then stood.

“Since you’re checking your results, why not share them? I’m sure you aced it, Miranda,” Quincey suggested.

Postgraduate admission exams were difficult, especially for Bedford College, with fierce competition.
