Chapter 75
Sam looked pensive. “Is this interpretation correct? Biology is a broad concept, while applied biological sciences are the actual application of that knowledge. Bioinformatics, on the other hand, deals much more with computer technology, using applied mathematics, information science, statistics, and computer science to study biological problems. Right?”
Miranda’s eyes held a hint of respect. “That’s precisely it.”
“Is that so?” Sam smiled brightly. “Well, it’s all thanks to your thorough explanation. I just summarized the main points and rephrased them for clarity.”
Miranda saw him in a new light. She usually encountered Sam in restaurants, bars, or clubs; a typical rich, frivolous playboy. She never expected this level of biological knowledge. It made her think, “Never judge a book by its cover.”
She’d been with Hansel for six years, yet he knew nothing about her college major. They’d never discussed her studies. Their time together was spent at bars with Hansel’s friends or at the mansion. Therefore, she was surprised to hear Sam discuss these familiar terms.
Beside them, Calvin looked dazed, his head seemingly about to explode from the technical jargon. After they finished eating, he hurriedly excused himself to pay the bill.
Sam’s lips curled as he watched Calvin leave. Then, he gazed intently at Miranda’s faintly twinkling eyes. They continued chatting. Eventually, Sam checked his phone. “Calvin said he had an urgent matter and asked me to take you home.”
Miranda looked at her watch. It was late. “It’s alright. I can just take a cab.”
“As a gentleman, I can’t let a lady travel home alone after dinner. Besides, I’m already trying to help a friend.”
Miranda pressed her lips together. “In that case, I’ll accept your offer.”
“My pleasure.”
After leaving the restaurant, Sam retrieved Miranda’s gloves and opened the passenger door. “After you,” he said, acting like a true gentleman.
“Thank you.”
During the twenty-minute drive, they spoke little. The car was quiet, the journey smooth and pleasant. Gradually, Miranda’s attention was caught by the snowy landscape outside: streets and trees with bare branches. The wind seemed chilly.
Sam glanced at Miranda from time to time. She had a fair complexion and an air of quiet elegance. Her cute button nose, red lips, and long lashes gave her an innocent, adorable look as she gazed out the window.
Her previous long, curly hair, while nice, hadn’t been particularly special. Now, with straight hair and only a simple scarf, she looked stunning.
For a split second, Sam’s eyes seemed to smile, but he quickly resumed his usual expression, keeping his hands on the wheel and his gaze fixed on the road.
