Chapter 88

Miranda frowned at his confidence. Before she could speak, a voice called out, "Miranda?"

Calvin, who had been eating nearby, was surprised to see Sam and Miranda together through the café window. It was a popular spot for couples, and at first, he thought he was mistaken. But it was them.

While Calvin was surprised Sam had feelings for his best friend's ex-girlfriend, he wasn't entirely shocked; Sam had done more unconventional things in the past. However, he never expected Miranda to reciprocate.

He watched them, a complicated expression on his face, wanting to say something but unsure how to begin. Miranda forced a smile, briefly interrupting their conversation to greet Calvin before leaving.

The moment she left, Calvin slid into her seat. "Hey, are you for real?" he asked Sam.

"What do you mean, 'for real'?" Sam asked, taking a leisurely sip of his coffee.

"I don't think Miranda will accept you," Calvin said.

Sam paused, setting down his cup. "Why do you say that?"

Calvin's apprehension grew at Sam's sudden seriousness. "Two reasons. First, you're not her type. Second, your relationship with Hans will always be a barrier." Sam wasn't particularly desirable, and Miranda was discerning.

Leaning closer and lowering his voice, Calvin continued, "Tell me, since when have you had feelings for Miranda?"

Sam stared out the window indifferently. After a small sip, he replied, "A long time ago. Probably not long after she started dating Hans."

"Damn, you're a monster!" Calvin gritted his teeth. "You've been coveting your best friend's girlfriend!"

Sam smiled coldly. "Did I make any moves while they were together? Now that they've split, am I not allowed to pursue my feelings?"

"But you developed feelings a long time ago! That's wrong!"

Sam snorted. "Didn't you and Zach have a crush on the same girl in high school?"

Calvin stammered, "I—I didn't know any better then! And I can't control who I like—"

"So you think I can?"

Since Hans didn't appreciate Miranda, someone else would naturally take his place. He hadn't tried to steal her; he'd waited until now, showing consideration for their past relationship. Now, he was simply pursuing what he wanted.

Seeing his stubbornness, Calvin scratched his head. "Well why don't you just give up? You know Miranda's temperament. Forcing it won't be pleasant."

Hansel had already severed ties with Sam, exchanging harsh words and vowing never to be in the same room again. Their circle of friends remained silent, fearing involvement in their conflict.

The reason for their feud became a hot topic. Some speculated about unfair profit distribution, strained family relations, or even a fight over a bar girl. The latter drew the most attention.

Calvin remained tight-lipped, laughing off any inquiries.
