Chapter 122: My Wolf, Lawrenceโs Reaction
Hayleyโs POV:
I listened intently as the piano music unfolded, its melodies rising and falling between light and somber notes, intertwining two distinct styles. Driven by curiosity, I followed the sound up to the top floor of the villa. As I approached the piano room, the music became clearer. The moment I arrived at the door, Hera began to stir with excitement, and I instantly realized who was inside. Hera always picked up on him before I did.
I pushed open the slightly ajar door and immediately spotted a tall figure facing away from me. His long fingers flew over the piano keys, creating a rhythmic melody that filled the room.
โThat sounds wonderful!โ I complimented, genuinely impressed. However, as soon as I spoke, Benjamin stopped playing, pulling his hands back and looking at me. โWhat are you doing here so late?โ
With a smile, I stepped inside and replied, โI was drawn in by your music.โ
Benjamin shrugged it off, saying, โItโs just casual playing; nothing impressive.โ
I disagreed. โYou must have practiced for many years! Youโre at least at an eighth-grade level.โ
He raised an eyebrow, intrigued. โYou seem to know a bit about music?โ
Feeling a bit guilty, I rubbed my nose and replied, โI wouldnโt say I know much. I just know a little.โ
Benjaminโs interest piqued. โHow about we play a duet?โ
I didnโt hesitate at his invitation and responded, โSure, letโs do it.โ
Benjamin immediately gave me half of his stool, and we sat down next to each other. Four hands were placed on the keys at the same time, and the fingers fell at almost the same time, and a light piano sound rang out. We cooperated very well. Each beat was perfectly in sync.
Surprised, Benjamin turned to me. โI didnโt expect you had such talent on the piano.โ
I sensed his mastery of the piano. It was as if our souls were connected through the music. We picked up the pace together and then seamlessly slowed down, our playing perfectly synchronized. When we finished, a genuine smile lit up Benjaminโs face. โHayley, I underestimated you. Your piano skills are truly impressive.โ
I could tell his compliment was sincere.
โYou play even better than I do,โ I replied. โYour technique is amazing. I can tell you must play this piece often.โ
Aware that I had seen through him, Benjamin showed no signs of embarrassment. โYou have quite the sharp eye for detail.โ
I withdrew my hands and stood up. โThank you for theโฆ experience! But itโs getting late, and I should head back to rest.โ
Benjamin stopped me. โPlaying with you gives me a sense of mutual understanding. Letโs play together again sometime.โ
I smiled and replied, โOkay.โ Then I turned and walked away.
Benjaminโs POV:
I watched her silhouette fade into the distance before shifting my gaze back to the piano keys. Slowly, I closed my eyes, as the echo of our four hands dancing across the keys lingered in my ears. No one had ever been able to match my speed until Hayley came along. She was the first to cooperate with me so harmoniously, almost at my level.
From the moment she walked in today, my wolf, Lawrence, reacted more intensely than ever. I could sense that both Lawrence and I had feelings for her. But she was just an Omega. Although my grandpa was quite fond of her, I couldnโt shake the thought that, as my Luna, she would need to stand by my side to defend the Midnight Pack. I wasnโt sure if an Omega could shoulder such a heavy responsibility.
Moreover, the most crucial point was that Lawrence still hadnโt confirmed whether she was my destined mate. After all, only a destined mate, as arranged by the Moon Goddess, would ensure that our union would produce offspring worthy of inheriting the alpha position. There were still many secrets about her that I had yet to uncover.
As I opened my eyes, I found myself grappling with a whirlwind of conflicting emotions regarding her.
Hayleyโs POV:
As the first rays of sunlight filtered through the window, the alarm clock chimed precisely on schedule. I reluctantly got out of bed, freshened up, and went out, only to bump into Benjamin. โMorning,โ he said, greeting me first.
โGood morning,โ I responded, returning his smile.
We strolled alongside each other, and Benjamin asked, โDid you sleep well last night?โ
I smiled sweetly and said, โI slept pretty well.โ
As we made our way down the stairs, I glanced around but didnโt see Henry. โIsnโt he supposed to take me to school today? Where is he?โ
Benjamin replied, โHe went out drinking with friends last night, so heโs likely still sleeping. I can drive you to school instead.โ
I didnโt mind who would take me to school, so I responded with a simple โSure,โ and made my way to the dining room. I enjoyed a simple breakfast, and after I finished eating, I got into Benjaminโs car.
During the drive, I was deeply engrossed in my homework when I noticed Benjamin looking at me in the rearview mirror. There was a gentle warmth in his eyes that made my heart flutter.
As I reached the school entrance, I hurriedly collected my belongings and bid him farewell, saying, โIโm heading inside now. You should get to the office too. Goodbye!โ
Then, I got out of the car and made my way toward the school gate. Suddenly, a male voice called out behind me, โHayley!โ
