Chapter 123: Choose Me as Your Mate

Hayleyโ€™s POV:

When I heard someone calling my name, I instinctively stopped walking and turned around. I was surprised to see Jeremy walking toward me, beaming.

โ€œIโ€™ve finally caught up with you,โ€ he said, smiling as he raised a bouquet of flowers. โ€œI picked these out for you.โ€

A little taken aback, I didnโ€™t take the flowers. Instead, I asked, โ€œWhat are you doing here?โ€

Jeremy looked as if he had something to say but hesitated. After a moment, he smiled, his expression darkening slightly. โ€œLast time, when I asked you to wait for me after your exam, you left first. Do you knowโ€”โ€

He glanced at me but didnโ€™t finish his sentence.

โ€œBut it doesnโ€™t matter. Iโ€™ll be the one to come find you,โ€ he said, smoothly changing the subject. โ€œI heard the results of the Math Olympiad are out, and you got a perfect score again. Congratulations!โ€ Jeremy said it sincerely. His gaze fixed on me with such intensity that it made me feel awkward.

I pressed my lips together, then asked, โ€œJeremy, do you have something to tell me?โ€

Jeremy shook his head and gestured to the bouquet. โ€œNo, not really. I just wanted to bring you these flowers. I picked each one carefully. You should take them.โ€

I declined directly. โ€œI appreciate the gesture, but Iโ€™m not really into flowers.โ€

He looked disappointed. โ€œAlright, next time Iโ€™ll bring you something else.โ€

I raised my gaze and spoke earnestly. โ€œJeremy, we donโ€™t know each other that well, so you donโ€™t need to do all this.โ€

His face instantly turned red, and he stammered, struggling to find his words. โ€œNโ€“no, itโ€™s fine! I want to do this.โ€

I advised him, โ€œJeremy, you really shouldnโ€™t do things like this in the future. Donโ€™t you want to find your destined mate? Even if she hasnโ€™t appeared yet, itโ€™s better to wait for her instead of choosing me at random. It will only cause trouble for me.โ€

Jeremy seemed caught off guard by my straightforwardness, looking a bit flustered. โ€œDid I make things difficult for you? If I did, Iโ€™m sorry. If you donโ€™t like it, I wonโ€™t do it again.โ€

After a moment of reflection, I asked, โ€œJeremy, why are you doing this? Or, what do you want to achieve by doing this? Iโ€™m not pretty enough. Some might even say Iโ€™m ugly, and Iโ€™m just an Omega. Why are you interested in me?โ€

Jeremy looked at me. โ€œYouโ€™ve misunderstood. Iโ€™m not just interested in you. Iโ€ฆ I like you. Yes, Hayley, I like you. Even if my wolf doesnโ€™t react to you, my heart races every time I see you.โ€

I frowned, listening as he continued.

โ€œThe fact that you can get a perfect score in the national math Olympiad is enough to impress me. And your kindness and willingness to help others are truly admirable. Iโ€™m drawn to your intellect and your heart. Your appearance and social status mean nothing to me. I hope youโ€™ll consider giving me a chanceโ€”โ€

Before Jeremy could finish his words, a cough interrupted us from behind. I snapped out of it and looked up to see Benjamin standing nearby, though I hadnโ€™t noticed when he had arrived.

Benjamin smiled apologetically. โ€œSorry to interrupt, but your pen dropped into my car.โ€

I blushed instantly with embarrassment! Of all moments, why did Benjamin have to walk in on us?

Jeremy looked at Benjamin with a confused look. As he picked up on the Alphaโ€™s presence, he instinctively took a couple of steps back, his confidence noticeably wavering.

He glanced at me, his voice trembling slightly as he asked, โ€œWho is this?โ€

Without a second thought, I linked my arm with Benjaminโ€™s and replied to Jeremy, โ€œHeโ€™s my mate! Iโ€™m sorry, Jeremy, but I canโ€™t accept your feelings.โ€
