Chapter 123: Choose Me as Your Mate
Hayleyโs POV:
When I heard someone calling my name, I instinctively stopped walking and turned around. I was surprised to see Jeremy walking toward me, beaming.
โIโve finally caught up with you,โ he said, smiling as he raised a bouquet of flowers. โI picked these out for you.โ
A little taken aback, I didnโt take the flowers. Instead, I asked, โWhat are you doing here?โ
Jeremy looked as if he had something to say but hesitated. After a moment, he smiled, his expression darkening slightly. โLast time, when I asked you to wait for me after your exam, you left first. Do you knowโโ
He glanced at me but didnโt finish his sentence.
โBut it doesnโt matter. Iโll be the one to come find you,โ he said, smoothly changing the subject. โI heard the results of the Math Olympiad are out, and you got a perfect score again. Congratulations!โ Jeremy said it sincerely. His gaze fixed on me with such intensity that it made me feel awkward.
I pressed my lips together, then asked, โJeremy, do you have something to tell me?โ
Jeremy shook his head and gestured to the bouquet. โNo, not really. I just wanted to bring you these flowers. I picked each one carefully. You should take them.โ
I declined directly. โI appreciate the gesture, but Iโm not really into flowers.โ
He looked disappointed. โAlright, next time Iโll bring you something else.โ
I raised my gaze and spoke earnestly. โJeremy, we donโt know each other that well, so you donโt need to do all this.โ
His face instantly turned red, and he stammered, struggling to find his words. โNโno, itโs fine! I want to do this.โ
I advised him, โJeremy, you really shouldnโt do things like this in the future. Donโt you want to find your destined mate? Even if she hasnโt appeared yet, itโs better to wait for her instead of choosing me at random. It will only cause trouble for me.โ
Jeremy seemed caught off guard by my straightforwardness, looking a bit flustered. โDid I make things difficult for you? If I did, Iโm sorry. If you donโt like it, I wonโt do it again.โ
After a moment of reflection, I asked, โJeremy, why are you doing this? Or, what do you want to achieve by doing this? Iโm not pretty enough. Some might even say Iโm ugly, and Iโm just an Omega. Why are you interested in me?โ
Jeremy looked at me. โYouโve misunderstood. Iโm not just interested in you. Iโฆ I like you. Yes, Hayley, I like you. Even if my wolf doesnโt react to you, my heart races every time I see you.โ
I frowned, listening as he continued.
โThe fact that you can get a perfect score in the national math Olympiad is enough to impress me. And your kindness and willingness to help others are truly admirable. Iโm drawn to your intellect and your heart. Your appearance and social status mean nothing to me. I hope youโll consider giving me a chanceโโ
Before Jeremy could finish his words, a cough interrupted us from behind. I snapped out of it and looked up to see Benjamin standing nearby, though I hadnโt noticed when he had arrived.
Benjamin smiled apologetically. โSorry to interrupt, but your pen dropped into my car.โ
I blushed instantly with embarrassment! Of all moments, why did Benjamin have to walk in on us?
Jeremy looked at Benjamin with a confused look. As he picked up on the Alphaโs presence, he instinctively took a couple of steps back, his confidence noticeably wavering.
He glanced at me, his voice trembling slightly as he asked, โWho is this?โ
Without a second thought, I linked my arm with Benjaminโs and replied to Jeremy, โHeโs my mate! Iโm sorry, Jeremy, but I canโt accept your feelings.โ
