Chapter 188: Plagiarism

โ€œTalking smack about people behind their backs isnโ€™t exactly a good habit.โ€

It was Henry. He had snuck up behind us, deliberately trying to scare us. I didnโ€™t even blink. As a beta, his reflexes were nowhere near as sharp as mine. Before he lunged, Iโ€™d already sensed he meant no harm.

Trista, however, wasnโ€™t the least bit embarrassed about being caught. She shot back, โ€œI didnโ€™t say anything wrong. Youโ€™ve been goofing off every day with no ambition, and now you suddenly claim you will make it into the top five in the class? If thatโ€™s not crazy, what is?โ€

Henry ignored her.

But Trista wasnโ€™t done. โ€œThereโ€™s no way youโ€™re cracking the top five. Impossible.โ€

Henryโ€™s face was a mask of indifference as he stared at her. โ€œTrista, donโ€™t think you can make it in Hollywood just because you have a pretty face. Thatโ€™s the last thing theyโ€™re short on over there.โ€

He continued, ruthless as ever. โ€œYour face is totally unremarkable. Even if you manage to squeeze in, the best youโ€™ll do is play extras.โ€ Tristaโ€™s expression soured instantly.

โ€œHenry, shut your mouth! Iโ€™ll make it to the top, and youโ€™ll have to eat your words!โ€ she snapped.

Henry, unfazed, turned and walked away. Trista, fuming, stomped her feet in frustration.

I quickly tried to console her. โ€œAlright, calm down. Donโ€™t stoop to his level.โ€

โ€œI believe in youโ€”youโ€™ll absolutely make it.โ€

It took a while, but Tristaโ€™s anger finally started to subside. She turned to me, her voice firm. โ€œHayley, mark my words. Iโ€™ll make it in Hollywood, win an Oscar, and become a star.โ€

I gave her a thumbs-up. โ€œFuture superstar, no need to stay mad.โ€

As she cooled down, something suddenly crossed her mind. She grabbed my arm, wide-eyed. โ€œOh, Hayley, I almost forgot! I have some juicy gossip for you!โ€

โ€œChristopher got himself into trouble.โ€

The moment she said that, my heart skipped a beat. I quickly asked, โ€œWhat happened to him?โ€

Trista wasted no time spilling everything she knew. โ€œI heard thereโ€™s a problem with his new song. Heโ€™s super popular in the industry, and his new release got rave reviews. It even shot up to number one on the trending charts.โ€

โ€œNext thing you know, Harmonyโ€™s fans are accusing him of plagiarism. Itโ€™s blown up like crazy, and Christopherโ€™s agency hasnโ€™t said anything. Meanwhile, the hashtag #ChristopherOutOfTheIndustry has already passed 300 million views on Twitter.โ€

Hearing this, I fell silent, my thoughts spiraling. Trista kept talking, but her words barely registered.

Christopherโ€™s POV

Iโ€™ve been in a terrible mood since my new song was accused of plagiarism. I was even tempted to let my wolf take over and just sprint through the forest to blow off steam.

My manager, Caesar, paced back and forth, clearly agitated. โ€œChristopher, whatโ€™s going on with this new song?โ€

I stayed quiet. The original draft for this song was something Iโ€™d found under my desk computer. When I first saw it, I was shocked. I composed the first half, but the second half was heavily reworked. To my surprise, the changes significantly elevated the songโ€™s quality.

After showing it to professional songwriters, they unanimously agreed the piece was top-tier. Thatโ€™s when I decided to release it. I never expected it would lead to accusations of plagiarism.

โ€œCaesar, I didnโ€™t write the full song,โ€ I confessed.

Caesar swore under his breath. โ€œChristopher, why didnโ€™t you tell me this earlier?โ€

I was equally frustrated and explained, โ€œI found the song under my desk. The first half is mine.โ€

Caesar slapped his forehead. โ€œThis is a setupโ€”an outright setup. Someoneโ€™s trying to drag you into this mess. Whoever it is, theyโ€™re downright malicious.โ€

I pursed my lips. Iโ€™d never made enemies in the industry. As a member of the Southwells, the ruling pack of the Midnight Pack, nobody would dare target me lightly. So, who could have done this?

โ€œCheck the security footage outside my office. I want to see who planted it there,โ€ I instructed immediately.

Caesar stopped me. โ€œChristopher, nowโ€™s not the time to investigate. What matters is giving the public a response. Iโ€™ll contact crisis management immediately and ensure we minimize the damage.โ€

With that, he grabbed his phone and started making calls. My heart sank. Whoever set this up, Iโ€™ll find them. And if necessary, Iโ€™llโ€ฆ

Just then, the office door suddenly swung open. Siete walked in.

โ€œThat song isnโ€™t plagiarized,โ€ he said straight away.

Both Caesar and I turned to him, confused. โ€œSiete, what are you talking about?โ€

What he said next left us stunned. โ€œThat song was written by Harmony.โ€
