Alpha Hayleyโ€™s Destined Mate

Chapter 286: Hera Confirmed It for Me

Hayleyโ€™s POV:

Once I had calmed down, I asked, โ€œSo, did you come here to attend our engagement party?โ€

Grandma took my hand gently. โ€œHayz, tell me honestly, is this really what you feel deep down?โ€

โ€œYour grandpa and I both think Ben is a good young man, but your thoughts matter most. If you donโ€™t like him, you mustnโ€™t force yourself.โ€

I knew that, in this world, my grandparents were the ones who truly cared for me. So, I quickly reassured her, โ€œGrandma, donโ€™t worry. I agreed to the engagement because I liked him. Hera has confirmed it. Heโ€™s my destined mate.โ€

โ€œAs for the wedding, weโ€™ve decided to wait two years before deciding.โ€

When Grandma heard that, she seemed a lot more at ease.

โ€œAs long as you choose him, Hayz, I support you a thousand percent. But time flies so fast; in the blink of an eye, my Hayz is about to get married.โ€ Grandma ran her fingers through my hair, her voice tinged with nostalgia.

I leaned against her and said, โ€œGrandma, I promise Iโ€™ll live a good life.โ€

โ€œMm, I believe in you,โ€ she whispered.

We chatted for a little while longer before I helped her back to her room. Just as I turned around, I found Benjamin standing behind me, though I didnโ€™t hear him approach.

โ€œYโ€“youโ€™re home?โ€

He looked at me and asked, โ€œAre Grandpa and Grandma resting?โ€

I nodded and said, โ€œTheyโ€™ve had a long day, so theyโ€™re already asleep.โ€

โ€œGood,โ€ he said. โ€œIf they need anything, tell Lista. Let them stay here longer; itโ€™ll make the house feel livelier.โ€

Raising my head, I looked up and met his gaze. โ€œDid you bring them here?โ€ I had a pretty good idea already, but I still asked.

โ€œMm,โ€ Benjamin replied. โ€œYouโ€™re here alone, and I thought it would be nice for them to keep you company.โ€

A warm feeling spread through me. I sincerely thanked him. โ€œThank you!โ€

Benjamin stepped closer, stopping when there was barely a fistโ€™s distance between us. โ€œYou donโ€™t have to be so formal. Theyโ€™re your grandparents, which makes them my grandparents too. Weโ€™re family.โ€

I blinked, my heart pounding wildly. Hera was urging me excitedly to embrace him and kiss him.

And I watched as Benjamin leaned in, his handsome face drawing nearer to mine. Instinctively, I reached out and blocked his face with my hand. โ€œIโ€“I think I should go to my room now.โ€

Without waiting for his response, I quickly turned and left. Even after I reached my room and closed the door, my heart still raced uncontrollably. The image of Benjamin leaning in, wanting to kiss me, echoed in my mind. Hera grumbled in frustration, wondering why I hadnโ€™t accepted his kiss. I patted my chest. Thankfully, I ran fast! But why did I feel this strange, lingering sense of regret?

Yes, I had to admit. I was kind of looking forward to it, but I wasnโ€™t ready to face it. That night, I tossed and turned, unable to sleep, the image of Benjamin bending down to kiss me replaying over and over in my head. Finally, in the early morning hours, I fell into a deep sleep, only to wake up at noon.

โ€œBoss, time to wake up!โ€ Henry was knocking at my door.

I groaned and rolled over, asking him, โ€œWhatโ€™s up?โ€
