Alpha Hayleyโs Destined Mate
Chapter 286: Hera Confirmed It for Me
Hayleyโs POV:
Once I had calmed down, I asked, โSo, did you come here to attend our engagement party?โ
Grandma took my hand gently. โHayz, tell me honestly, is this really what you feel deep down?โ
โYour grandpa and I both think Ben is a good young man, but your thoughts matter most. If you donโt like him, you mustnโt force yourself.โ
I knew that, in this world, my grandparents were the ones who truly cared for me. So, I quickly reassured her, โGrandma, donโt worry. I agreed to the engagement because I liked him. Hera has confirmed it. Heโs my destined mate.โ
โAs for the wedding, weโve decided to wait two years before deciding.โ
When Grandma heard that, she seemed a lot more at ease.
โAs long as you choose him, Hayz, I support you a thousand percent. But time flies so fast; in the blink of an eye, my Hayz is about to get married.โ Grandma ran her fingers through my hair, her voice tinged with nostalgia.
I leaned against her and said, โGrandma, I promise Iโll live a good life.โ
โMm, I believe in you,โ she whispered.
We chatted for a little while longer before I helped her back to her room. Just as I turned around, I found Benjamin standing behind me, though I didnโt hear him approach.
โYโyouโre home?โ
He looked at me and asked, โAre Grandpa and Grandma resting?โ
I nodded and said, โTheyโve had a long day, so theyโre already asleep.โ
โGood,โ he said. โIf they need anything, tell Lista. Let them stay here longer; itโll make the house feel livelier.โ
Raising my head, I looked up and met his gaze. โDid you bring them here?โ I had a pretty good idea already, but I still asked.
โMm,โ Benjamin replied. โYouโre here alone, and I thought it would be nice for them to keep you company.โ
A warm feeling spread through me. I sincerely thanked him. โThank you!โ
Benjamin stepped closer, stopping when there was barely a fistโs distance between us. โYou donโt have to be so formal. Theyโre your grandparents, which makes them my grandparents too. Weโre family.โ
I blinked, my heart pounding wildly. Hera was urging me excitedly to embrace him and kiss him.
And I watched as Benjamin leaned in, his handsome face drawing nearer to mine. Instinctively, I reached out and blocked his face with my hand. โIโI think I should go to my room now.โ
Without waiting for his response, I quickly turned and left. Even after I reached my room and closed the door, my heart still raced uncontrollably. The image of Benjamin leaning in, wanting to kiss me, echoed in my mind. Hera grumbled in frustration, wondering why I hadnโt accepted his kiss. I patted my chest. Thankfully, I ran fast! But why did I feel this strange, lingering sense of regret?
Yes, I had to admit. I was kind of looking forward to it, but I wasnโt ready to face it. That night, I tossed and turned, unable to sleep, the image of Benjamin bending down to kiss me replaying over and over in my head. Finally, in the early morning hours, I fell into a deep sleep, only to wake up at noon.
โBoss, time to wake up!โ Henry was knocking at my door.
I groaned and rolled over, asking him, โWhatโs up?โ
