Chapter 334: On Purpose
Hayleyโs POV: +8 Pearls
โOh, Iโm so sorry, I didnโt mean to!โ Belleโs voice sounded apologetic, but her tone was anything but sincere. I glanced at the coffee stains spreading across my workbook and frowned. Just as I was about to clean it up, Belle beat me to it. She grabbed some tissues and began wiping at my workbook, rubbing so hard that the pages ended up smeared and crumpled.
โI wiped it up for you! Surely you wonโt hold a grudge against me over this, right?โ she said, smiling smugly.
I stared at the mess she had made of my workbook, fists clenched tightly. Lifting my gaze, I fixed her with a cold stare. โYou didnโt do that โon purpose,โ yet you managed to ruin my workbook this thoroughly?โ
Belle shrugged, completely unfazed. โI already apologized. What more do you want from me?โ
The moment she finished speaking, I grabbed the water cup on my desk and, without hesitation, splashed it straight onto her face. โOops, sorry! I didnโt mean to do that. Youโre such a generous personโIโm sure you wonโt hold it against me, right?โ I said, mimicking her tone.
Belle stood there, completely stunned. Water dripped from her hair and face, and she looked like a drowned rat. Drops slid from her forehead and onto the floor.
โHayley, you b*tch!โ She gritted her teeth and shouted my name, seething with rage. โYou did that on purpose!โ
I let out a cold laugh and replied calmly, โWerenโt you the one who started it? Or are you saying what you did wasnโt on purpose?โ
My words sent her into a fit of fury. Her wolf instincts flared, and she bared her sharp fangs at me, ready to lunge. But the next second, I saw her eyes narrow slyly, as if sheโd thought of something. She pulled back, regaining control, and sneered, โYouโre in a bad mood, arenโt you?โ
โCould it be that Benjamin rejected you? And now you have nowhere to vent your anger, so youโre taking it out on me? If thatโs the case, I totally understand,โ she said mockingly.
I shot back without hesitation, my tone sharp and disdainful: โYou? A punching bag for me? Donโt flatter yourself. Youโre not even worth that.โ
I looked at her with pure contempt, my gaze slicing through her smugness. Belleโs face turned a deep shade of red, and she started hurling insults like a madwoman. โHayley, you pathetic Omega! Just because the Southwell family is shielding you doesnโt mean you can strut around the school acting untouchable!โ
โA man like Benjamin deserves to be with a high-ranking Beta or elite Alpha lady. Do you think an Omega like you could ever dream of marrying into the Southwell family? Keep dreaming!โ
โBenjamin is only interested in you because youโre new and novel to him. Once he gets bored, youโll be kicked out of the Midnight Pack in no time!โ
I listened to her rant with an expressionless face, my emotions perfectly composed. When she finished, I asked flatly, โAre you done?โ
Belle seemed unsatisfied and opened her mouth to keep going. โEven if youโre clinging to the title of Benjaminโs fiancรฉe right now, that position wonโt stay secure for long. You shouldnโt act so high and mighty, or youโll embarrass yourself when you fall from grace.โ
She let out all the venom sheโd been holding back, clearly enjoying herself. I knew she was waiting for me to crumble, for her words to hurt me enough to show weakness or pain. But her words had no effect on me.
I calmly looked her in the eye and said, โEven if one day Iโm no longer Benjaminโs fiancรฉe, that title will never go to you. And it definitely wonโt go to your so-called cousin Madeline. Benjamin isnโt blindโhe doesnโt just settle for anyone.โ
I spoke slowly and deliberately, each word cutting like a blade. The entire classroom went silent. Belleโs face turned pale, and her lips trembled as she struggled to form a reply.
I lifted my chin slightly, maintaining my composure, and continued, โAnd as for the position of Luna of the Midnight Pack, it means nothing to me.โ
โBut for someone like you, that position is something youโll never reachโnot in this lifetime. So tell me, Belle, on what basis do you think you have the right to act arrogantly in front of me?โ
โHow dare you!โ Belle looked like she was about to explode, her chest heaving with suppressed fury.
โWhat?โ I said coldly. โMs. Hunter,โ I addressed her directly, my tone harsh and commanding. โDid you forget about what happened last time? I didnโt want to pursue the matter further, but you promised to apologize and still havenโt said a single wordโnot even shown the slightest hint of regret.โ
โAnd now, donโt you think itโs time for you to take responsibility for your actions?โ My words hit her like a hammer, and she stood there frozen, her face a mix of anger and humiliation.
