Chapter 406: Threats
Hayleyโs POV:
After I warned him, he was clearly intimidated by my strong presence and was trembling slightly. But he still tried to act tough. โDo you think Iโm scared? Let me tell you, bringing your studio down is nothing but a matter of minutes.โ
I smiled calmly. โFine. Iโll be waiting. But let me remind you: those who do wrong will eventually pay the price. And tell Clarice not to bother Tanner again.โ
He gave me a long, cold stare before sneering. โYou, a lowly Omega, think you can meddle in Clariceโs affairs? Donโt say I didnโt warn you; interfering with us will come at a price.โ Then, he shot me one last threatening look before walking away without waiting for a reply. I watched his retreating figure, my hands clenched into fists.
The assistant quickly approached, clearly worried. โHayley, are you okay?โ My instincts told me that the agent wouldnโt just let it go and would likely cause more trouble. I looked at the assistant and said, โIโm fine.โ
The assistant sighed, clearly frustrated. โThis isnโt the first time Clarice has caused problems for Mr. Southwell. Itโs happened several times already. Mr. Southwell usually tries to avoid dealing with them, but because the contract was for a year, heโs been forced to go along with itโฆ It seems like they wonโt stop until they get Mr. Southwell to give in. Iโve never seen such a shameless woman before. She pretends to be sweet and innocent on screen, but behind the scenes, sheโs this kind of person.โ
The assistant was speaking so freely, but then suddenly stopped and turned pale. โMr. Southwell, Iโฆโ
I looked up and saw Tanner approaching. Tanner said to the assistant, โGo back to work.โ The assistant quickly left.
Tanner walked over to me and said, โThank you, Hayley! But from now on, donโt get involved in this.โ
I was a bit confused. โWhy put up with her like this?โ
Tanner replied, โClarice has connections with witches and the underworld. I donโt want to make things worse by offending her too much and risk bringing trouble to the Midnight Pack.โ
I frowned. โSo youโre just going to put up with her harassment?โ
Because he, the one directly involved, had made up his mind, I didnโt press the matter further.
Later in the afternoon, I found myself distracted, my mind stuck on thoughts of Clarice. I decided to look her up online, and soon enough, her detailed Wikipedia page appeared. The online profile was heavily edited, with nothing particularly striking about it. I didnโt have much of an impression of Clarice, so I put my phone away and decided not to dwell on it.
As usual, I worked late, staying until after nine before finally turning off the lights and preparing to leave the studio. I was always the last one to leave, and I had grown used to it. After locking the door as I always did, I walked out.
As I stepped out of the studio, I quickly sensed a shadow rushing toward me. Before I could react, a sack was thrown over my head. Heraโs voice called out to me, โHayley, let me take control!โ I calmed Hera and decided to go along with it, eager to find out who was behind this and what they wanted. I pretended to struggle for a moment and then passed out.
