Chapter 426: What If I Canโ€™t Come Up With Anything?

Hayleyโ€™s POV:

Hera told me she didnโ€™t sense anything out of the ordinary. I spent quite a while trying to make sense of it, but I couldnโ€™t come up with any answers. As the workday was winding down, Tanner stopped by to check on me.

โ€œStill staring at that thing?โ€ he asked, peering over at the blank sheet in my hands.

I looked up and sighed. โ€œWhat do you think? What could possibly be so mysterious about a plain A4 sheet?โ€

Tanner shrugged. โ€œI honestly donโ€™t know. Maybe itโ€™s just meant for you to be creative and come up with something on your own, without any specific direction.โ€

โ€œIs that the case?โ€ I muttered, feeling more confused, though it seemed like there was no other explanation.

โ€œThatโ€™s just my guess,โ€ he said with another shrug. โ€œWho can really say?โ€

I felt stuck, frustration settling in as I sighed again. โ€œBut the first draft is due in a month. What if I canโ€™t come up with anything by then?โ€

Tanner gently patted my shoulder. โ€œDonโ€™t stress about it. Youโ€™re going to be the Luna of the Midnight Pack, after all. Even if you donโ€™t finish on time, no oneโ€™s going to make a big deal out of it. Just take a break for now! Itโ€™s almost quitting time, and Iโ€™ll drive you home.โ€

I shook my head. โ€œNo, Iโ€™m fine. I can get home by myself.โ€

Tannerโ€™s expression grew worried. โ€œNo way. After what happened last time, I canโ€™t just let you go alone. If anything goes wrong again, Ben might punishโ€ฆโ€

I sighed, feeling guilty for worrying him, but I finally relented. โ€œAlright, fine. Letโ€™s go.โ€

After Tanner dropped me off at the entrance to my neighborhood, Hera suddenly became alert. I realized Benjamin was nearby. Sure enough, Tanner rolled down the window, and I saw him standing there.

โ€œBen! Are you here to see Hayley?โ€ Tanner asked, surprised.

Benjamin raised an eyebrow, shaking the keys in his hand. โ€œNo, I live here.โ€

Tannerโ€™s eyes widened in shock. โ€œWait, what? You moved? Are you two living together now?โ€

I quickly jumped in, trying to clear up the misunderstanding. โ€œNo, he moved into the apartment next door. Heโ€™s just my new neighbor.โ€

Tanner let out a deep sigh of relief. โ€œOh, thank goodness. I was starting to worry.โ€

I couldnโ€™t help but laugh. โ€œWhatโ€™s with that look on your face? You look like youโ€™ve just escaped some kindโ€ฆโ€

Tanner coughed awkwardly, trying to cover up his embarrassment. โ€œWell, I was just worried about you two getting carried away before youโ€™re officially a couple. You know, if that happens, you might not get the Moon Goddessโ€™ blessingโ€ฆโ€

I rolled my eyes, lightly hitting him on the arm. โ€œWhat are you even talking about?โ€

Tanner quickly nodded. โ€œRight, right, sorry. Iโ€™m overthinking itโ€ฆ Trying to change the subject, he added, โ€œBy the way, your letter arrived at the Southwells. Henry said heโ€™ll bring it to you. Did you get it?โ€

โ€œNot yet,โ€ I replied. โ€œHeโ€™ll probably drop it off later.โ€

Tannerโ€™s excitement suddenly spiked. โ€œOh, and congratulations on getting into New College! Thatโ€™s amazing! When should we throw you a celebration party?โ€

Before I could respond, Benjamin chimed in, โ€œI think thatโ€™s a great idea. What do you think about having a celebration?โ€ He looked to me for my thoughts.

I thought about it for a moment before saying, โ€œJust keep it simple. We can set a date, gather everyone for some drinks and conversation. Iโ€™ll be heading to Cryving soon, and I probably wonโ€™t be back often except for the holidays.โ€

โ€œThat sounds perfect! Iโ€™m all for it!โ€ Tanner said eagerly. โ€œHayley, leave everything to me for the party,โ€ he offered.

I smiled at him, grateful. โ€œThanks, I appreciate it.โ€

Benjamin gave Tanner a pat on the shoulder. โ€œThanks, man.โ€

Tanner grinned. โ€œNo problem, Ben. Iโ€™m just doing this for our future Luna. Itโ€™s the least I can do.โ€ โ€œAlright, itโ€™s settled then. Iโ€™ll pick a good day, and weโ€™ll all get together,โ€ Tanner said, clearly excited. After everything was decided, I got out of the car and told him, โ€œIโ€™m heading home now. Drive safe.โ€

Tanner waved. โ€œGo ahead. Iโ€™ll be fine here.โ€

After watching him drive off, I felt Heraโ€™s urgency and quickly moved toward Benjamin. He reached for my hand. โ€œLetโ€™s go. Time to head back.โ€

We walked together into the neighborhood, but as soon as we stepped out of the elevator, we unexpectedly ran into someone.
