Chapter 451: Forgot to Hide My Alpha Status
Hayleyโs POV:
I was caught off guard and momentarily forgot to hide my Alpha status. In a blur of motion, I rushed over to Loretta. โWhatโs going on, Loretta?โ
Loretta, too excited to notice how fast I movedโsomething only an Alpha would be capable ofโwas practically jumping up and down, pointing at her phone with uncontainable joy. โI won! I won! This is amazing!โ
I stood there for a moment, speechless, trying to process the sudden excitement. โWhat game are you playing, and why are you so worked up about it?โ I asked, genuinely curious.
Lorettaโs grin stretched even wider as she replied, โItโs War and Civilization.โ
I nodded, intrigued but still not fully understanding what was so special about it. Loretta continued, โI havenโt been playing for long, but Iโm already at level 30. And Iโve heard of this big player, Joybringer!โ
โJoybringer is incredible. Her skills are off the charts! Iโve seen her gameplay videos, and sheโs unbeatable!โ Loretta added, her excitement growing.
I tried to suppress my amusement, coughing lightly before asking with a teasing tone, โDo you like her?โ
Loretta quickly clarified, โNot like that! But her skills are insane! Sheโs always leading his team to victory. If I could be on her team, I wouldnโt even have to try. Iโd just win and level up so fast!โ
Loretta then turned her focus back to me. โHayley, do you play games?โ
I smiled. โI do, but itโs been a while. Maybe we can play together sometime.โ
โYes! Let me know when youโre online. Iโll be ready! Anyway, Iโve got to go. My teammates are waiting. You should get some sleep; Iโll play a few more rounds.โ She said it all in one breath, quickly returned to her game, and no longer paid attention to me.
Since she was so engrossed, I didnโt bother interrupting her.
The next day marked the start of our first class of the semester. When I walked into the classroom, I spotted Professor Cain standing at the front. I paused for a second, surprised. I found a seat, and before long, the bell rang to signal the start of the lesson.
Professor Cain looked around the room, then said, โThis is my first class with all of you. Iโve noticed that everyone seems to be in good spirits after the werewolf training. Itโs great to see you all so energized. Iโm from the Flood Packโฆโ Professor Cain introduced himself briefly before jumping into the lesson.
He wrote a math problem on the board and addressed us, โToday, I have a math problem for you. Try solving it.โ
The moment he finished speaking, my classmates grabbed their pens and started working on it. I glanced at the problemโbasic calculus, something I had already studied on my own. I quickly finished it.
Just then, Professor Cain walked over to my desk. โDon?โ he asked.
I nodded, and he glanced at my answer. โNot bad! Youโve got a good grasp on it.โ
He then pulled out an A4 sheet from his book and handed it to me. โHereโs another problem. Work on it in your free time. If you solve it, bring it to me. If not, itโs okay.โ
I wasnโt sure what Professor Cainโs intention was, but I just nodded. โAlright, Iโll give it a try.โ
He gave me a meaningful look but didnโt say anything else and turned to leave.
After class, I took the problem with me and went to the library to work on it. It was challenging, but not impossible. I just needed some time.
Third-person POV:
Meanwhile, in the faculty office, Greg Fletcher asked, โSo, you really gave Hayley that problem?โ
Francis nodded. โLetโs see if she can crack it. Weโve all struggled with it for years, so if she solves it, it would be a breakthrough.โ
Greg raised an eyebrow, skeptical. โWeโve dedicated our careers to math and couldnโt solve it. A young girl just starting out isnโt likely to. I heard sheโs just an Omegaโthereโs no way her intelligence can match up to us Betas.โ
Francis remained calm. โI donโt know why, but I have a feeling Hayley is special. I believe in her.โ
Greg was unconvinced. โThere are so many experienced professors, both here and abroad, who couldnโt solve this. And youโre betting on a young girl, an Omega? Itโs unrealistic. But I appreciate your optimism. How about a bet?โ
Francis thought for a moment. โAlright, letโs make a bet.โ
Greg smirked. โYou said it! Weโll give it a month. If Hayley solves the problem, Iโll buy you the best wine!โ
โHa, deal! And if you loseโฆโ Francis raised an eyebrow.
โYouโll come to my house and drink whatever you want from my wine cellar,โ Greg joked.
โAlright, itโs a deal!โ
โItโs settled!โ
Hayleyโs POV:
I flipped through several international math books until I finally found a chapter that dealt with this type of problem. I studied it carefully, then picked up my pen and began working on the equation.
Time seemed to slip away. Day turned into night, and right back into day. I sat at my desk, working tirelessly through the hours. I wasnโt until the early morning, feeling the weight of exhaustion, that I finally collapsed onto the desk, falling into a deep sleep.
Just then, a voice pulled me from my slumberโฆ
