Chapter 452: Fell Asleep

Hayleyโ€™s POV:

โ€œWake up! You canโ€™t sleep here! You need to go back to your dorm and rest.โ€ A voice jolted me awake. I blinked in confusion and saw a Beta administrator standing over me. Glancing around, I realized the day had already begun, and it was time for the next class. I quickly gathered my belongings and rushed out of the library toward the classroom.

As soon as I entered, Loretta spotted me and asked, โ€œHey, Hayley, where were you last night?โ€ I answered with a sheepish smile, โ€œI accidentally fell asleep in the library.โ€

She sighed, her voice tinged with admiration. โ€œYouโ€™re so hardworking and gifted. It makes me feel like I need to step up my game just to keep up with you as your roommate.โ€ She then opened her textbook silently. Her words made me chuckle as I grabbed the textbooks I needed for class and prepared to join in.

After class, Willa rushed into the room, blocking my path as she eagerly asked, โ€œHayley, howโ€™s it going? Did you finish the translation?โ€ I handed her the first completed section, saying, โ€œIโ€™ve only finished the first part for now, but you can use it. Let me know if you need anything clarified.โ€ Willa grabbed it, her excitement palpable. โ€œThanks so much, Hayley! Iโ€™ll treat you to a drink sometime!โ€ She turned and let her wolf take over her body before dashing off, leaving me to pack up my things. Just as I was about to leave, Loretta called out, โ€œHayley, where are you going?โ€

I explained, โ€œI donโ€™t have class this morning, so Iโ€™m going to the library.โ€ Loretta frowned thoughtfully, then stood up and said, โ€œIโ€™ll go with you.โ€ โ€œOkay, letโ€™s go,โ€ I replied.

At the library, I gathered the books I needed and settled into a spot to read. Loretta sat next to me for a bit, but soon got distracted by her phone and started playing a game. Dingโ€ฆ A notification popped up on my phoneโ€”it was from Christine. โ€œHayley, the school is hosting a welcome party. Are you planning to sign up?โ€

I thought for a moment before replying, โ€œNo.โ€ Christine quickly followed up, โ€œItโ€™s my first time organizing such a big event! Are you sure you donโ€™t want to come?โ€ I was a bit surprised and typed back, โ€œYouโ€™re in charge?โ€ Christine responded eagerly, โ€œYeah! I was actually hoping youโ€™d be my mysterious guest! You couldโ€ฆโ€

I paused, not sure how to respond, and sent a few ellipses in reply. Christine insisted, โ€œPlease, Hayley! Youโ€™re my idol! Just one song! And you can wear a mask so no one will know itโ€™s you, the famous Harmony!โ€ Her enthusiasm wore me down, and I finally replied, โ€œIโ€™ll think about it.โ€ Christine bombarded me with excited emojis, and I shook my head in amusement, putting my phone down.

I returned my attention to the problem Professor Cain had given me, picking up my pen to work through it. I filled an entire page with calculations, but I still couldnโ€™t find a solution. I turned the page and continued, but halfway through, I realized I had made a mistake in one of my formulas. I quickly corrected it and kept going. Time dragged on.

Meanwhile, Loretta had been losing several rounds in her game. She groaned and muttered, โ€œIโ€™m done. I canโ€™t play anymoreโ€ฆ My teammates are terrible. We just canโ€™t win.โ€ โ€œHow much longer are you staying in the library?โ€ she asked. I didnโ€™t look up from my work as I replied, โ€œA little longer.โ€ โ€œOkay, Iโ€™ll head out then.โ€ She then packed up her stuff and left.

Once Loretta left, I stayed focused on solving the problem. By the time I finished and stretched, it was time to pack up and leave.

The next day, as I walked into the classroom, I overheard some students talking excitedly about the upcoming welcome party. โ€œI heard the music departmentโ€™s prodigy will perform at the party. Heโ€™s the Alpha heir of the Windhowl Pack! Iโ€™m so excited!โ€ โ€œDo you think there will be a lot of high-ranking hotties there?โ€ โ€œDefinitely. The school takes the welcome party seriously every year. I wonder what our departmentโ€™s performance will be likeโ€ฆโ€

Just then, I saw Kirsty approaching, and a few students called out to her. โ€œKirsty, youโ€™re helping organize the event, right? What new performances are lined up?โ€ Kirsty smiled confidently and said, โ€œYes, weโ€™re preparing a play.โ€ โ€œReally? Can I join in?โ€ one student asked. Kirsty smirked and said, โ€œOf course! Just sign up with me.โ€ After writing down their names, Kirsty glanced at me with a strange look.

I wasnโ€™t particularly interested in interacting with her, but as I was about to leave, she walked up to me. โ€œHayley, we have a role in the play that would be perfect for you. Why donโ€™t you join us?โ€
