Chapter 452: Fell Asleep
Hayleyโs POV:
โWake up! You canโt sleep here! You need to go back to your dorm and rest.โ A voice jolted me awake. I blinked in confusion and saw a Beta administrator standing over me. Glancing around, I realized the day had already begun, and it was time for the next class. I quickly gathered my belongings and rushed out of the library toward the classroom.
As soon as I entered, Loretta spotted me and asked, โHey, Hayley, where were you last night?โ I answered with a sheepish smile, โI accidentally fell asleep in the library.โ
She sighed, her voice tinged with admiration. โYouโre so hardworking and gifted. It makes me feel like I need to step up my game just to keep up with you as your roommate.โ She then opened her textbook silently. Her words made me chuckle as I grabbed the textbooks I needed for class and prepared to join in.
After class, Willa rushed into the room, blocking my path as she eagerly asked, โHayley, howโs it going? Did you finish the translation?โ I handed her the first completed section, saying, โIโve only finished the first part for now, but you can use it. Let me know if you need anything clarified.โ Willa grabbed it, her excitement palpable. โThanks so much, Hayley! Iโll treat you to a drink sometime!โ She turned and let her wolf take over her body before dashing off, leaving me to pack up my things. Just as I was about to leave, Loretta called out, โHayley, where are you going?โ
I explained, โI donโt have class this morning, so Iโm going to the library.โ Loretta frowned thoughtfully, then stood up and said, โIโll go with you.โ โOkay, letโs go,โ I replied.
At the library, I gathered the books I needed and settled into a spot to read. Loretta sat next to me for a bit, but soon got distracted by her phone and started playing a game. Dingโฆ A notification popped up on my phoneโit was from Christine. โHayley, the school is hosting a welcome party. Are you planning to sign up?โ
I thought for a moment before replying, โNo.โ Christine quickly followed up, โItโs my first time organizing such a big event! Are you sure you donโt want to come?โ I was a bit surprised and typed back, โYouโre in charge?โ Christine responded eagerly, โYeah! I was actually hoping youโd be my mysterious guest! You couldโฆโ
I paused, not sure how to respond, and sent a few ellipses in reply. Christine insisted, โPlease, Hayley! Youโre my idol! Just one song! And you can wear a mask so no one will know itโs you, the famous Harmony!โ Her enthusiasm wore me down, and I finally replied, โIโll think about it.โ Christine bombarded me with excited emojis, and I shook my head in amusement, putting my phone down.
I returned my attention to the problem Professor Cain had given me, picking up my pen to work through it. I filled an entire page with calculations, but I still couldnโt find a solution. I turned the page and continued, but halfway through, I realized I had made a mistake in one of my formulas. I quickly corrected it and kept going. Time dragged on.
Meanwhile, Loretta had been losing several rounds in her game. She groaned and muttered, โIโm done. I canโt play anymoreโฆ My teammates are terrible. We just canโt win.โ โHow much longer are you staying in the library?โ she asked. I didnโt look up from my work as I replied, โA little longer.โ โOkay, Iโll head out then.โ She then packed up her stuff and left.
Once Loretta left, I stayed focused on solving the problem. By the time I finished and stretched, it was time to pack up and leave.
The next day, as I walked into the classroom, I overheard some students talking excitedly about the upcoming welcome party. โI heard the music departmentโs prodigy will perform at the party. Heโs the Alpha heir of the Windhowl Pack! Iโm so excited!โ โDo you think there will be a lot of high-ranking hotties there?โ โDefinitely. The school takes the welcome party seriously every year. I wonder what our departmentโs performance will be likeโฆโ
Just then, I saw Kirsty approaching, and a few students called out to her. โKirsty, youโre helping organize the event, right? What new performances are lined up?โ Kirsty smiled confidently and said, โYes, weโre preparing a play.โ โReally? Can I join in?โ one student asked. Kirsty smirked and said, โOf course! Just sign up with me.โ After writing down their names, Kirsty glanced at me with a strange look.
I wasnโt particularly interested in interacting with her, but as I was about to leave, she walked up to me. โHayley, we have a role in the play that would be perfect for you. Why donโt you join us?โ
