Chapter 469: Anyone I Can Trust
Hayleyโs POV:
โMaโam, please, thereโs no need for thisโฆโ
However, Virginia firmly said, โI wonโt stop until you agree to help me.โ
I sighed, feeling the weight of her plea. โLetโs talk this through properly! This is a lot of pressure for me.โ
Looking at me earnestly, Virginia explained, โHayley, I donโt have any other requests. I just need you to look after my mother-in-law. I canโt risk anything happening to her.โ
โI understand you might seem just like an Omega, but know youโre very capable. I donโt have anyone else I can trust right now, and I really need your help to keep her safe.โ
Hearing this, Mrs. Laurel started to tear up. โVirginia, what are you doing? Iโm old now. Ever since they secretly poisoned my wolf, Iโve known I donโt have much longer.โ
โAnd besides,โ she added, โshe wouldnโt dare do anything to me now.โ
Virginia continued to gaze at me, her eyes filled with a mix of hope and desperation. โCan you do it, Hayley?โ
Despite my initial reluctance to get involved in such deep family matters, the gravity of the situation pulled me in. I looked at Mrs. Laurel, who had once been a respected Luna, and her husband the Alpha King. Now, in her later years, she was entangled in a severe family crisis. Then I turned to Virginia, whose poise and dignity belied her recent feigned madness. Their plight stirred a deep sympathy in me.
After a moment of contemplation, I slowly nodded, agreeing to their request. โOkay, Iโll look after Mrs. Laurel.โ
Relief washed over Virginiaโs face. She expressed her gratitude profusely. โThank you so much! Once I manage to expose Freyaโs crimes and get her behind bars, I promise youโll be handsomely rewarded.โ
I am not entirely sure why I agreed to help Virginia. Perhaps it was the profound maternal affection evident in her eyes, or maybe it was the way her emotions resonated with me, recalling the loss of her daughter, Michelle. Whatever the reason, I found myself committed to assisting these two women in their time of need. And, reassuringly, this time my wolf, Hera, did not protest my decision.
As I exited the attic, a servant was waiting outside. โMs. Carson, the young lady has requested that you join her in the dining room for a meal.โ
I politely declined. โNo, thank you. Iโd like to take Mrs. Laurel outside for a walk.โ
The servant hesitated. โIโm sorry, Ms. Carson, but the young lady has advised against taking Mrs. Laurel out due to her health concerns.โ
Mrs. Laurel stood up indignantly upon hearing this. โNo one can tell me what to do!โ
โMrs. Laurel, the young lady is just concerned about your health. If you really wish to go out, I wouldnโt dare to stop you,โ the servant replied respectfully.
Mrs. Laurel scoffed and gave me a knowing look. Understanding her cue, I stepped forward to assist her. โLet me help you downstairs.โ
With my support, Mrs. Laurel made her way down to the hall. Once we were out the door, I discreetly sent a location coordinate to Benjamin, then continued walking with her outside. However, as soon as we stepped into the yard, our path was blocked by another servant who suddenly appeared.
โMrs. Laurel, Ms. Carson! You canโt leave the grounds right now, but youโre welcome to take a walk around the yard.โ
