Chapter 468: Agreed to Freyaโ€™s Request

Hayleyโ€™s POV

โ€œMichelle, where have you been all this time?โ€

Everyone said you were gone, that you had died, but I always knew you hadnโ€™t. I knew you were still out thereโ€ฆ And now, seeing you again, itโ€™s like a miracle.

Virginiaโ€™s emotions overwhelmed her as she spoke, holding me close and wiping away tears. My feelings for her were complex; the first time we met, the look of maternal love in her eyes profoundly touched me and left a lasting impression. Previously, she had mistaken me for her daughter, treating me with such kindness. My wolf, Hera, also felt at peace around her, which influenced me to agree to Freyaโ€™s request once more.

Virginiaโ€™s heartfelt words deeply moved me. They say nothing compares to a motherโ€™s love, and I felt the full force of that with Virginia.

โ€œVirginia, are you alright?โ€ Mrs. Laurel approached, concern evident in her voice.

Virginia looked up at Mrs. Laurel and suddenly embraced her. Mrs. Laurel comforted her, patting her back gently, โ€œMy Virginia! My dear child.โ€ However, soon after, Virginia stepped back, her demeanor stabilizing as if returning to reality. She did not seem crazy at all now.

Looking at me with deep emotion, she then turned to Mrs. Laurel and reassured her, โ€œMom, Iโ€™m fine! Really, Iโ€™m okay. Iโ€™m not mad!โ€

Mrs. Laurel stared in disbelief, โ€œButโ€ฆ how can this be?โ€

โ€œMom, please, just listen, let me explain,โ€ Virginia interjected calmly. She then stood up, took a good look at me, and spoke earnestly, โ€œIโ€™m sorry if this sounds forward, but when I first saw you, I truly thought you resembled my mother when she was young. Thatโ€™s why I mistakenly thought you were my daughter, Michelle.โ€

As Virginia spoke, I understood that I wasnโ€™t particularly interested in other peopleโ€™s family affairs, so I just nodded slightly and said, โ€œItโ€™s okay! If you need to discuss things, Iโ€™ll step out.โ€

โ€œWait!โ€ Virginia called out as I turned to leave.

โ€œHayley, can I call you that?โ€ she asked.

I nodded, โ€œOf course.โ€

Virginia continued, โ€œI know you and Freya are not the same. You seem like a good person. I havenโ€™t been entirely forthcoming with you. Iโ€™m not sure why Freya contacted you, but I can tell youโ€ฆโ€

โ€œIโ€™m well aware of the mischief sheโ€™s involved in behind the scenes. Itโ€™s like Iโ€™ve raised a thankless child after all these years,โ€ she said with a hint of anger.

Virginiaโ€™s expression then turned grave. โ€œIf it were just about money, I could let it slide. But from what Iโ€™ve gathered while pretending to be out of my mind, it seems she might be involved in the car accident that injured Alan and Peter. Thereโ€™s a possibility sheโ€™s working with some witch. Even you, Mom. She might be the one poisoning you with the witchโ€™s poisonโ€ฆโ€

Her words shifted the mood in the room instantly. Like Mrs. Laurel, I was too stunned to speak.

โ€œThat monster! To think she could harm her own father and brotherโ€”sheโ€™s heartless,โ€ Mrs. Laurel exclaimed, visibly shaken.

Virginia added, โ€œAbsolutely heartless, a real demon! Alan and Peter are in the hospital right now. She will only stop when they are unable to heal like typical werewolves! Now, I fear she might target me and you next, Mom. Weโ€™ve run out of options and need your help, Hayley.โ€

With that, Virginia grabbed my hand. โ€œHayley, Iโ€™m begging you, please help us.โ€
