Chapter 468: Agreed to Freyaโs Request
Hayleyโs POV
โMichelle, where have you been all this time?โ
Everyone said you were gone, that you had died, but I always knew you hadnโt. I knew you were still out thereโฆ And now, seeing you again, itโs like a miracle.
Virginiaโs emotions overwhelmed her as she spoke, holding me close and wiping away tears. My feelings for her were complex; the first time we met, the look of maternal love in her eyes profoundly touched me and left a lasting impression. Previously, she had mistaken me for her daughter, treating me with such kindness. My wolf, Hera, also felt at peace around her, which influenced me to agree to Freyaโs request once more.
Virginiaโs heartfelt words deeply moved me. They say nothing compares to a motherโs love, and I felt the full force of that with Virginia.
โVirginia, are you alright?โ Mrs. Laurel approached, concern evident in her voice.
Virginia looked up at Mrs. Laurel and suddenly embraced her. Mrs. Laurel comforted her, patting her back gently, โMy Virginia! My dear child.โ However, soon after, Virginia stepped back, her demeanor stabilizing as if returning to reality. She did not seem crazy at all now.
Looking at me with deep emotion, she then turned to Mrs. Laurel and reassured her, โMom, Iโm fine! Really, Iโm okay. Iโm not mad!โ
Mrs. Laurel stared in disbelief, โButโฆ how can this be?โ
โMom, please, just listen, let me explain,โ Virginia interjected calmly. She then stood up, took a good look at me, and spoke earnestly, โIโm sorry if this sounds forward, but when I first saw you, I truly thought you resembled my mother when she was young. Thatโs why I mistakenly thought you were my daughter, Michelle.โ
As Virginia spoke, I understood that I wasnโt particularly interested in other peopleโs family affairs, so I just nodded slightly and said, โItโs okay! If you need to discuss things, Iโll step out.โ
โWait!โ Virginia called out as I turned to leave.
โHayley, can I call you that?โ she asked.
I nodded, โOf course.โ
Virginia continued, โI know you and Freya are not the same. You seem like a good person. I havenโt been entirely forthcoming with you. Iโm not sure why Freya contacted you, but I can tell youโฆโ
โIโm well aware of the mischief sheโs involved in behind the scenes. Itโs like Iโve raised a thankless child after all these years,โ she said with a hint of anger.
Virginiaโs expression then turned grave. โIf it were just about money, I could let it slide. But from what Iโve gathered while pretending to be out of my mind, it seems she might be involved in the car accident that injured Alan and Peter. Thereโs a possibility sheโs working with some witch. Even you, Mom. She might be the one poisoning you with the witchโs poisonโฆโ
Her words shifted the mood in the room instantly. Like Mrs. Laurel, I was too stunned to speak.
โThat monster! To think she could harm her own father and brotherโsheโs heartless,โ Mrs. Laurel exclaimed, visibly shaken.
Virginia added, โAbsolutely heartless, a real demon! Alan and Peter are in the hospital right now. She will only stop when they are unable to heal like typical werewolves! Now, I fear she might target me and you next, Mom. Weโve run out of options and need your help, Hayley.โ
With that, Virginia grabbed my hand. โHayley, Iโm begging you, please help us.โ
