Chapter 483: Looks Like Me
Hayleyโs POV:
โYou still donโt know why everyoneโs congratulating you?โ Loretta exclaimed excitedly. โProfessor Cain nominated you for the highest-level national mathematics award, and itโs already passed the preliminary review! Youโre the first woman to ever win it!โ
โYeah! Itโs incredible!โ
I was still confused. โYou mustโve misheard, right? Professor Cain didnโt tell me anything about this. Maybe itโs someone else with a similar name, or someone who looks like me. Are you sure youโre not mistaken?โ
โNo!โ Loretta hooked her arm through mine and declared confidently, โItโs posted on our department bulletin board. How many Omegas named Hayley do you think there are here? Who else could it be but you?โ
โAnd donโt forget, no matter how much you change, Iโll recognize you anywhere!โ
โThatโs kind of creepy,โ someone joked.
Loretta brushed off the comment with a laugh. โWhatโs creepy about it? I want everyone to know I choose my friends based on talent, not appearance or status! Some people may look like high-ranking Beta werewolves, but theyโre useless and mean-spirited. Others may just be ordinary Omegas, but theyโre brilliant! Kirsty is the former, and Hayley is the latter.โ Loretta even gave me a cheeky wink as she finished.
Her blunt comment sent everyone into fits of laughter.
Kirstyโs POV:
I walked toward the group, holding my books, and the first thing I saw was everyone laughing with Hayley at the center. I assumed Hayley mustโve told them about me โseducingโ her fiancรฉ. That had to be why they were all laughing at me.
The sound of their laughter was unbearable. I couldnโt hold back any longer and stormed over, yelling, โShut up!โ
Shoving through the crowd, I stood directly in front of Hayley, my anger boiling over. โHave you saidโฆ enough yet?โ
โSo what if itโs about a man? So what if I had a little too much to drink and leaned on your fiancรฉ for a second? Does that give you the right to spread rumors about me? Want me to get you a megaphone for it?โ
I was so worked up that spit flew onto Hayleyโs face as I yelled. She wiped her cheek with obvious disgust, frowning as she stared at me.
Seeing someone defend Hayley only made me angrier. I glared back at Loretta, practically growling, โThis is between me and Hayley! Stay out of it and mind your own business!โ
โYouโฆโ Loretta started to retort, but Hayley calmly held her back.
She stepped forward, her expression calm but firm, and asked me, โKirsty, what exactly have I done to you?โ
I glared at her and growled, โDonโt act like I didnโt hear it. I heard everything. I saw everything!โ Then I turned to the group and announced loudly, โDonโt believe a word Hayley says! Itโs all lies!โ โYes, I went to the bar with a man, but only because heโd been chasing after me for so long. I decided to give him a chance. Itโs nothing like what youโre all imagining. I didnโt seduce anyone!โ
I paused, glaring daggers at Hayley before pointing at her and adding, โSheโs probably told you I went after her fiancรฉ, right? The truth is, it was her fiancรฉ who couldnโt resist me. Heโs the one who tried to take advantage of me!โ
