Chapter 505: Fingerprints on the Knife

Hayleyโ€™s POV

โ€œMurder? Me?โ€ I was completely baffled.

โ€œYouโ€™ve got it wrong,โ€ the officer who had taken my statement quickly interjected, โ€œSheโ€™s a witnessโ€”sheโ€™s the one who found the victim.โ€

โ€œWitnesses turning out to be the culprits isnโ€™t exactly unheard of,โ€ the detective snapped back sharply. He then produced a clear evidence bag containing a knife from his colleague. โ€œThis is the weapon we found at the crime scene. It has traces of Mrs. Odessa Southwellโ€™s blood and your fingerprints.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s because I took it from Irving. Itโ€™s perfectly reasonable for my fingerprints to be on it,โ€ I explained calmly.

โ€œThen why arenโ€™t Irvingโ€™s fingerprints on it?โ€ His gaze turned accusatory. โ€œBesides, he doesnโ€™t have his wolf anymore. Heโ€™s just like a human now, and he wouldnโ€™t be able to overpower you, an Omega. Itโ€™s obvious youโ€™re trying to frame him, taking advantage of his reputation as a disgraced rogue.โ€

His words were filled with malice and speculation, as though he was determined to make me the villain. He stared at me sternly and continued, โ€œAnd no one saw Irving entering or leaving the restaurant. Only you were there. You and Odessa have a known history of animosity. You have both the motive and the opportunity to murder her.โ€

I stayed silent for a moment before realization struck me. I had fallen into Irvingโ€™s trap.

โ€œFine. Iโ€™ll stay and cooperate, but I want a lawyer,โ€ I said firmly.

โ€œThatโ€™s your right,โ€ the detective replied.

An hour later, Johnny arrived with a lawyer.

โ€œHayley, youโ€™ve been wronged. Donโ€™t worry, I will get you out of here,โ€ he said, his voice filled with both anger and concern.

โ€œThank you, Johnny. Iโ€™ll be okay,โ€ I replied calmly, then asked, โ€œHowโ€™s Benjaminโ€™s mom?โ€

โ€œSheโ€™s still in surgery. The injuries were severe, and her wolf seemed to be in shock as well,โ€ Johnny explained.

I sighed. โ€œI hope she pulls through.โ€

Johnny was displeased. โ€œWhy are you even worrying about her after everything sheโ€™s done to you? That womanโ€™s been nothing but trouble, and now her mess has dragged you into this!โ€

โ€œJohnny, donโ€™t say that. No matter what, sheโ€™s still Benjaminโ€™s mother,โ€ I said quietly.

After a brief pause, I looked at Johnny with determination. โ€œJohnny, I need your help with a few things.โ€

First, I need you to contact my second-in-command, Thomas. His wolf might be in a dormant state because Hera canโ€™t sense him. If anyone can clear my name, itโ€™s him. Tell him to focus on surveillance footage and eyewitnessesโ€”those are the key.

Second, ask him to get in touch with Dr. Claudio Aher and have him personally come to the Midnight Pack to operate on Odessa. Benjamin cares deeply about his mother, and I donโ€™t want him to suffer.

Johnny sighed heavily. โ€œYou are still thinking of others even in a situation like this.โ€

โ€œFine. I know I canโ€™t change your mind. Donโ€™t worryโ€”handle everything.โ€

Benjaminโ€™s POV:

I sat on the bench outside the operating room anxiously as I waited. Henry and the others arrived one after another.

โ€œWhatโ€™s going on? Does this really have something to do with Hayley?โ€ Tanner asked, frowning.

โ€œDonโ€™t be ridiculous! Ben wouldnโ€™t be with someone whoโ€™d do something like that,โ€ Henry defended Hayley.

โ€œDo you think I want to suspect her? But letโ€™s be honest. Mom has said some pretty awful things. We all know they donโ€™t get along, right?โ€ Tannerโ€™s voice grew louder with frustration.

โ€œIf Mom had a problem with Benโ€™s choices, she wouldโ€™ve done something a long time ago. Why wait until now?โ€ Henry retorted angrily, glaring at Tanner.

โ€œEnough,โ€ I said in a low voice. โ€œIt wasnโ€™t her.โ€

โ€œThen who could it be?โ€ Christopher asked, confusion written all over his face.

At that moment, my phone rang. I glanced at the screenโ€”it was an unfamiliar number. After a brief hesitation, I answered and put it on speaker.

โ€œHow does it feel to watch someone so close to you teeter on the edge of life and death?โ€ Irvingโ€™s voice came through the line, dripping with malice.

Henry and the others stared in shock, but I didnโ€™t flinch. โ€œIt seems I was far too lenient with you,โ€ I said coldly. โ€œI shouldโ€™ve let my wolf tear you apart completely.โ€

โ€œYou made a mistake, Benjamin,โ€ Irving replied smugly. โ€œAnd not just that one.โ€ His tone turned mocking as he continued, โ€œLet me give you a little reminder. If Odessa doesnโ€™t make it and dies on that operating table, then this all ends. But if she survives, wellโ€ฆ sheโ€™s never liked Hayley, has she? Do you think sheโ€™ll just let her go? Think about it. Are you going to save Hayley or Odessa?โ€

โ€œBetter decide quickly!โ€ He laughed maniacally.
