Alpha Hayleyโs Destined Mate
Chapter 536: Have I Met Her Before?
Hayleyโs POV:
I instantly recognized the woman as a high-ranking Beta. Though her rank was the same as Lorettaโs, her presence was far more commanding. As soon as she entered, her sharp eyes scanned every corner of the room.
Confused, I asked, โExcuse me, who are you looking for?โ
โHayley Carson?โ The woman turned toward me.
โThatโs me,โ I replied slowly, standing up while trying to recall if weโd ever met before.
โGood. Iโm Mira, your new roommate and personal bodyguard.โ She tossed her travel bag onto the empty bed across the room.
โWho sent you?โ I asked. I came here to study, not to get involved in any conflicts. Bringing a bodyguard felt unnecessary and over-the-top. Even when I was abroad as the Alphaโs heir, I never had one.
โI canโt explain right now, but Iโm here to protect you,โ Mira said, sitting in the closest chair, lighting a cigarette, and silently smoking.
I frowned, about to stop her when Loretta came out of the bathroom. Seeing Mira smoking casually, Loretta immediately got angry. She stormed over, pointing at Mira and shouting, โWho are you? Why are you in our dorm? No smoking here! Iโll report you to the dean if you donโt stop!โ
Loretta reached for the cigarette to put it out, but before she could, Mira quickly stood, pressing her face against the table and locking her hands behind her back. Refusing to back down, Loretta transformed into a wolf and broke free from Miraโs hold, baring her teeth and trying to bite Miraโs leg. Mira swiftly dodged the attack. Before Loretta could react, Mira grabbed her neck, leaving her unable to fight back.
โItโs dangerous! You go first!โ Mira said seriously, turning to me.
Loretta groaned in pain, her form shifting back to human. She looked at me and cried out, โOuch! Help me, Hayley!โ
โHold still!โ Mira warned as she saw Loretta looking to me for help.
โStop!โ I quickly intervened. โYou both seem to have misunderstood. You two are roommates, not enemies.โ
โRoommates? No way!โ Both Loretta and Mira exclaimed, exchanging skeptical looks.
โHayley, are you out of your mind? Youโve only been gone a few days, and now youโre acting like youโve lost your memory.โ
โLook at her! She doesnโt even look like a normal student. How could she be our classmate?โ Loretta said, eyeing Mira.
Mira remained calm, not offering any explanation. I took a good look at her. She was dressed in a leather jacket, pants, and knee-high bootsโnot as extreme as Loretta had made it sound, just a unique style.
The tension between them grew, and neither was willing to give in. I had to step in and tell Mira, โLet go of Loretta. Iโll take responsibility for whatever happens.โ She was here to protect me, so she had to listen.
As I expected, Mira didnโt show any outward reaction but stepped back and released Loretta. Once free, Loretta rushed to my side, holding my arm and casting a suspicious glance at Mira.
โAre you truly our new roommate?โ she asked.
Mira looked at us expressionlessly. I gave her a subtle signal, and she understood. She went to the bed, grabbed her bag, pulled out a student ID, and handed it to Loretta. โItโs true.โ
