Chapter 553: Better to Have Allies Than Enemies

Odessaโ€™s POV

โ€œYou two must be the Ortegasโ€™ nephews, right? Iโ€™m Benjaminโ€™s mother.โ€

โ€œI remember holding you both when you were little. Our families go way back.โ€

Daniel and Jonah exchanged glances, their expressions wary as they sized me up in silence.

I continued, โ€œThe Southwells and the Ortegas share a strong bond. I donโ€™t think a minor misunderstanding should strain our familiesโ€™ relationship.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™ll both inherit the Ortegasโ€™ business one day. Surely, you understandโ€”itโ€™s better to have allies than enemies.โ€

โ€œBesides, you should be well aware of Midnight Packโ€™s strength. Benjamin stands among the top Alphas of his generation.โ€

โ€œYou make a good point,โ€ Daniel said, feigning confusion. โ€œBut I still donโ€™t quite understand what youโ€™re getting at.โ€

I wasnโ€™t upsetโ€”after all, I needed something from them. So, I lowered my stance, speaking with patience.

โ€œAlright, Iโ€™ll be direct. Hayley is Benjaminโ€™s fiancรฉe. That makes her part of my family, and potentially the future Luna of Midnight Pack.โ€

โ€œIf youโ€™re willing to let this go, the Southwells will remember the favor.โ€

The two exchanged another glance but remained silent, giving nothing away.

Just then, Benjaminโ€”rather than appreciating my effortsโ€”turned on me with an irritated scowl.

โ€œMom, what nonsense are you spouting now?โ€

โ€œBe quiet,โ€ I snapped, feeling irritated. โ€œIโ€™m here cleaning up the mess your fiancรฉe made. You and she had better learn to watch your mouths.โ€

Hayleyโ€™s POV

Fiancรฉe. That title was directed at me. Of course, I had to respond.

โ€œMrs. Southwell,โ€ I stepped forward, my voice cold. โ€œYouโ€™ve been here for less than five minutes, and youโ€™re already convinced this is my fault?โ€

โ€œWhoโ€™s right or wrong doesnโ€™t matter,โ€ Odessa said in a low voice, her expression hard. โ€œAs an Omega, you donโ€™t understand the rules among high-ranking werewolves. I wonโ€™t hold that against you, nor will I stop you from being with Benjamin.โ€

Chapter 553: Better to Have Allies Than Enemies (Continued)

This needs to be about proving whoโ€™s right.

โ€œIโ€™m teaching you how to navigate the world of high-ranking werewolves. Donโ€™t assume Iโ€™m trying to make things difficult for you.โ€

This time, Odessa spoke entirely from the perspective of the Southwells. There was no malice in her tone.

But her mistake? She never once considered things from my point of view. She assumed I was at fault without question; she never truly accepted or respected me.

Her words felt like a bucket of cold water poured over me, making me realize something. The biggest problem between Benjamin and me wasnโ€™t Odessa. It was the rigid, suffocating rules of this world.

If I revealed my true identity as an Alpha, no oneโ€”including Odessaโ€”would dare look down on me. High-ranking werewolves only associate with their kind. As an โ€œOmega,โ€ I would never be seen as Benjaminโ€™s equal. That was the rule.

And yet, I despised following rules. I could already foresee a future where, if the Southwellsโ€™ interests ever clashed with mine, Odessa wouldnโ€™t hesitate to cast me aside. That was not the life I wanted.

If I was going to live, I was going to do it my wayโ€”whether as an Alpha or an Omega.

Taking a deep breath, I turned and walked over to the officer who was recording the incident. โ€œCan I borrow your computer for a moment?โ€ I asked calmly.
