Chapter 642: Are You an Idiot?
Hayleyโs POV:
I nodded in acknowledgment. Hera caught the man's scent and immediately recognized him as Thomas's employee. He approached me, extending both hands and offering a wooden box. His posture was polite and respectful. โMs. Carson, here is the Aurora Root. Please accept it.โ
โThank you for your effort,โ I said, reaching to take the box.
โItโs my pleasure, Ms. Carson,โ he replied, handing me a business card. โHereโs my card. If you need anything in the future, donโt hesitate to reach out to me. Iโll always be at your service.โ He emphasized his final words with intent, smiling before turning to leave.
With the ingredients in hand, I made my way to the kitchen to begin preparing the medicine. Henry entered the room as I was busy getting everything ready.
โBenjamin, is Hayley making a nice lunch for you?โ he asked, looking toward Benjamin.
โAre you an idiot?โ Benjaminโs voice was filled with irritation.
I couldnโt help but chuckle at his response. Despite his high Beta status, his intelligence seemed lacking. How could he possibly think I was cooking when the strong scent of medicine filled the air? Henry gave me an innocent look as I shooed him out of the kitchen.
I handed Benjamin the medicine. โDrink it all.โ He looked down at the cup with disdain, his face scrunching up, but under my unwavering gaze, he gave in and drank it in two large gulps. Once he finished, I quickly took the cup from his hand and called out, โTyrone.โ
Tyrone stepped forward instantly, positioning himself behind Benjamin to gently support his arms. Benjamin raised an eyebrow. โI donโt think Iโm that weak.โ But no sooner had he spoken than he staggered slightly. Tyrone quickly steadied him, and Henry rushed over to help as well. Together, they managed to get him back on his feet.
โWhat the hell is going on here?โ Henry asked, his face a mixture of confusion and concern. โMy brotherโs an Alpha! Iโve never seen him this weakโunable to stand on his own.โ
โHayley, you didnโt poison him, did you?โ
At his words, even Hera in my mind called him an idiot.
The following morning, just before dawn, Heraโs senses detected Benjaminโs familiar scent as he approached, and she eagerly roused me from sleep. Benjamin stood beside the bed, his voice gentle as he spoke, โGet ready. Iโm taking you to see the treasure I stole.โ
Excited, I leaped out of bed, grabbed my bag, and rushed downstairs. Once Benjamin was dressed, we set off toward the โtreasure.โ Just as we got into the car, my phone rang. After answering, I hung up and struggled to keep my anger in check. I turned to Tyrone. โTake me to the hospital.โ
โWhat happened?โ Benjamin asked, worry creeping into his voice.
โPeterโs been beaten,โ I replied flatly, my grip on the phone tightening in frustration. Benjamin gently took my hand, holding it in his and giving it a reassuring squeeze, trying to calm my rising emotions.
At the hospital, I learned that Virginia had been injured while protecting Peter. When we arrived, I saw Virginia being helped out of the building, her head wrapped in bandages, looking weak and fragile. Peter, however, looked even worse, lying on a hospital bed, looking as delicate as he had been before I treated him. Alan sat quietly by his side, saying nothing, and the atmosphere was heavy and tense.
โWhat happened?โ I finally asked, unable to bear the silence any longer.
