Alpha Hayleyโs Destined Mate
Chapter 643: Open with Me
Hayleyโs POV:
Anyone daring enough to harm someone from the Sanders must hold a significant position themselves, likely no lower than a high-level Beta. I asked the question, but the room fell silent.
I shifted my attention to Virginia. She had always been open with me, but now she was avoiding eye contact, her hesitation clear as she searched for the right words.
โSpeak up!โ I snapped at Peter, feeling impatience grow within me. I was here to help resolve this, not make matters worse. Why were they hesitating?
Inside me, Hera stirred restlessly, her growls growing louder with each passing second. I was ready to track down those responsible and make them pay.
Peter, his head wrapped in bandages with only his eyes and mouth exposed, tried to explain, his voice strained.
โI took the money you gave me and went to negotiate with the companyโs financial director, but someone spiked my drink. When I woke up, there was a woman beside me. I tried to leave, but her brother burst in with a group of people, and they beat me up. They were all high-level Betas, just like me. There were too many of them for me to fight off.โ
He paused before continuing, โTheyโre not interested in settling things. They want to ruin me. Iโm sure theyโve already gone to the media.โ
โDid you sleep with her?โ I asked coldly.
โNo!โ Peterโs voice shot back sharply, filled with anger. โDo you think I would force a woman into bed with me?โ
โWhatโs the point of saying this now?โ Virginia, who had been silent until now, finally spoke, her voice tinged with frustration. โThey told Peter that if he doesnโt marry her, theyโll accuse him of rape and expose everything online to ruin the Sandersโ reputation!โ
โMom, whatโs the big deal? Let them spread their lies! The police wonโt side with them against the Sanders!โ Peterโs voice was full of defiance as he raised his voice.
โYou donโt understand!โ Virginia replied urgently. โYou havenโt found your destined mate yet. If this gets out, how will you ever be able to find the right mate from the right families?โ
โIf I canโt find the right mate, then I wonโt get married,โ Peter retorted firmly. โMichelle is back now, and when the time comes, the leadership of the Sanders will pass on to her child. I donโt care about any of this!โ
โEnough!โ Alan interrupted, his voice cutting through the tension. โStop it, all of you. Iโve already arranged a meeting with that family. Weโll handle it when we get home.โ
Just as Alan finished speaking, a loud noise came from the door. Before I could turn to see what was happening, the door swung open, and a man stumbled inside, nearly collapsing into Benjaminโs arms. Benjaminโs wolf-like eyes flared with fury, ready to confront the intruder, but I quickly calmed him down.
โAlan, I heard you wanted to see me, so I came straight here by taxi,โ said Logan Middleton, the father of the woman Peter had allegedly slept with. He was a lecherous, scheming man with a smug air about him. His loud, almost obnoxious voice made everyone in the room uncomfortable.
Logan shook hands with Alan before turning his attention to Peter, who was lying in the hospital bed. Feigning sympathy, he said, โOh, my son really went overboard. Weโre supposed to be family soon, and he couldnโt even take it easy on Peter!โ
โWhoโs gonna be family with you!โ Virginia shouted, her voice full of anger.
โYou must be Mrs. Sander, right?โ Logan said with a smile, unfazed by her outburst. โItโs understandable youโre upset. My son does lack restraint. Still, setting aside anger, these two need to settle their marriage as soon as possible!โ
โIโm not marrying your daughter. Get that into your heads!โ Peter glared at him, his voice thick with rage.
โYou donโt get to decide that,โ Logan smirked, turning to Alan. โRight, buddy?โ
Alan said nothing, but his silence spoke volumes. He clearly didnโt want to challenge Logan, and his inaction was a tacit agreement.
โDad, say something!โ Peter cried, tugging at Alanโs sleeve in frustration. โI havenโt found my destined mate yet! Thereโs no way Iโm marrying someone I donโt even know!โ
โNo way? Doesnโt matter how many times you say it!โ Alan shouted back angrily, his voice so loud it echoed in the hallway. โWho told you to sleep with the girl, huh?โ
I had met too many people like Alanโthose who only cared about their familyโs reputation and honor, regardless of the people involved. With a father like that, I felt pity for Peter. But Peter had been nothing but good to me, and seeing him treated like a puppet frustrated me beyond words.
I turned to Alan and mocked him coldly, โI truly donโt understand how someone like you can still call himself a father.โ
