Chapter 671: The Sandersโ Biological Daughter
Hayleyโs POV:
I was just about to show my fangs to scare her off when Virginia intervened. With a fiery look, she slapped Vivian across the face, exclaiming, โYou call her wild? It seems youโre the one lacking manners here. Youโre the wild one!โ
Vivian reeled from the slap, her face a picture of shock. Before she could gather herself, Virginia laid into her. โListen here, Hayley isnโt just some orphaned wild child; sheโs the legitimate heir to the Sanders, our treasured gem! How dare you, a low-ranking beta from another pack, stir up trouble on our turf?โ
Virginiaโs fierce demeanor took me by surprise. Since her mental recovery, she has been nothing but kind and gentle to me. I had never seen her so commanding, defending me like a true Luna.
Vivian, her fangs now on full display, was quick to snap back, but Peter was quicker. He shoved her aside, his tone sharp as he said, โThe Jaggedsโ daughter, huh? Go tell dad to pack his bags; the Jaggeds are done for!โ
โThe Sanders?โ The fear in Vivianโs eyes was unmistakable. Though the Jaggeds were well-known in our local pack, the Sanders were a force, prominent in the pack alliance.
Watching Vivianโs panicked look, I couldnโt help but smirk coldly. She clearly hadnโt done her homework on my ties with the Sanders. What a mistake. As I mulled over her oversight, our beta enforcers tossed her out like yesterdayโs news. She left me with a defiant sneer, saying, โHayley, just you wait!โ Her words? Barely a whisper in the wind to me.
Catching sight of Darcy attempting to slip away, I quickly cut off her escape. โDarcy, where do you think youโre going?โ I asked sharply.
โNowhere.โ She couldnโt even meet my eyes, her voice trembling. โIโI was just thinking of grabbing a bite next door!โ
I eyed her skeptically. โAnd where were you planning to crash tonight? You look beat.โ
Darcy mumbled, still avoiding my gaze, โI was going to stay with Marie.โ
โIs that so?โ I frowned, unimpressed. She glanced up nervously, and I met her gaze with a fierce, wolfish intensity that left no room for argument. She was quickly intimidated by my stance and quickly responded, โIโm picky about where I sleep; Iโll head back home!โ
Pretending to be worried, I said, โIsnโt it a bit soon to leave, right after you got here? Uncle might think weโre not treating you well.โ
โOh, no, not at all,โ Darcy replied, almost in tears and with a shaky voice. โItโs just that Iโm not comfortable sleeping in someone elseโs bed. It has nothing to do with you all!โ
โGood choice,โ I nodded, satisfied. โThe doorโs that way, feel free to use it.โ
โThank you, Hayley, really, thank you!โ She bowed repeatedly, then took off without a backward glance. She was out of sight in a flash.
Turning my attention to Claudio, I asked, โHave you eaten? If so, go get ready, and change into something more comfortable.โ The surgical tools were set; it was time to move Dominic to the hospital. Claudio gave me a knowing nod and headed for the backyard.
