Chapter 672: Surgery
It was late at night. The neighborhood was quiet, and a specially modified ambulance was parked at the front of the villa. After pausing briefly, it began moving again, flanked by four escort vehicles as it drove out of the city. An hour later, the scene shifted to the intensive care unit of a private hospital.
Ianโs POV:
I watched as they wheeled in the ice coffin and quickly pulled Benjamin to the side. โDidnโt I tell you a coma, beyond waking? Why bring him here?โ
โWe need your facility for surgery,โ Benjamin replied calmly.
โA surgery? On him? You canโt be serious,โ I said, shocked.
Even though I havenโt been practicing medicine for long, I am considered a leading authority in werewolf medical circles. Am I not aware whether thereโs any chance of him waking up? Unless his inner wolf is stirred, his chances are slim. Rash surgery could only further harm him.
However, as I made my point, Benjaminโs face remained stoic, and Hayley beside him was just as grave.
โYouโre serious,โ I said with a sigh, seeing their earnest faces.
โNo.โ I hesitated for a moment, then stepped in front of them, blocking the way. โIโm a doctor; I uphold professional ethics. Youโre playing with his lifeโI canโt allow it!โ
Just then, Claudio, clad in a white coat, passed by. I stared at him, and then it hit meโhe was the surgeon. I intercepted him immediately.
โHey!โ I snapped. โWhere do you think youโre going, charlatan? Performing surgery under these circumstances?โ
โDo you realize the risks of brain surgery? He could die at any second. Are you prepared to handle that?โ
โSure,โ Claudio replied with a smirk. โI take full responsibility. Youโre quite the looker, so of course, Iโll be responsible!โ
Was this guy hitting on me? Iโm not into guys! I quickly crossed my arms over my chest.
โWeโre talking about a life here! This is serious, stop messing around!โ
โIf he dies, can you live with that on your conscience?โ
โItโs fine if youโre willing to take risks, but donโt bring a disaster to my operating room!โ I declared, looking up arrogantly with a completely uncooperative stance.
โYouโll come around,โ Claudio said with a smirk, casually reaching into his coat pocket as he spoke.
โHeh, Iโd never agree to let a charlatan like youโฆโ Claudio. I began, but my words trailed off as I locked eyes withโฆ
Suddenly, from the side, a cloud of white powder was thrown. I tried to shield myself with my hand, but it was too lateโI had already inhaled a lot of it. My legs buckled beneath me, and I lost all strength, leaning against the wall and sliding down, just managing to keep from collapsing completely.
โYouโฆ you drugged me?!โ I gasped out in disbelief, my voice weak and trembling.
