Chapter 806 Did You Put Her Up to This?
Hayleyโs POV:
My words successfully drew the guestsโ attention. They all turned to look our way, whispering among themselves.
โTen million dollars? Freya actually dares to say that out loud?โ
โThat gemstoneโs a one-of-a-kind treasure. Back at a previous auction, a necklace made from a stone half this size sold for nearly a hundred million dollars. This oneโs on another level!โ
โLooks like the Sanders sisters are clearly at odds! But Michelle is just an Omega. Can she really take on Freya?โ
Listening to the speculations, I was speechless.
I ignored their chatter. Before Freya could speak, I turned and handed the check to Scarlett. โHere, Scarlett, take it. Itโs from Ms. Freya. A little tip for you for bringing the gem here.โ
Scarlett blinked in confusion for a moment. She looked up at me in puzzlement.
I gave her a wink, and only then did she catch on. She took the check and twirled it between her fingers, turning to Freya with a smile. โMs. Freya, thank you for the generous tip. Thatโs so kind of you.โ
โWhat are you talking about? Thatโs not a tip! Thatโs payment for buying the whole gemstone from Michelle!โ Freya hastily clarified.
โHuh? Are you kidding? Thatโs not funny at all. If I remember right, someone offered a billion dollars at the auction, and Hayley still didnโt sell the gemstone. Youโre not seriously thinking a few sweet words will make Hayley play the fool, are you?โ Scarlett looked at Freya with a wide-eyed, innocent face.
I nearly laughed at the look of frustration on Freyaโs face. Scarlett was the secret daughter my godfatherโthe richest man in the worldโhad adopted behind my back. She wasnโt lacking anything in life, so she was way more entitled to be arrogant than Freya. Freya didnโt stand a chance against her.
Unable to argue back, Freya hurriedly dragged Alan into it, pointing at me as she said, โSince Michelle carries the last name Sander, all her things belong to the Sanders. Besides, this is Dadโs decision!โ As she spoke, she rolled her eyes at Scarlett in disgust.
โDadโs decision?โ I sneered coldly. I turned to Alan and asked, โDid you put her up to this? You want to use ten million dollars to trick your biological daughter into handing over a gemstone worth billions?โ
Alan sighed and said to me, โMichelle, just hand over the gem. If you think the price is too low, Iโll talk to them and raise the price to one billion, alright?โ
โNo!โ I snapped, โThat gemstone isnโt for sale at any price. I have no shortage of money! Iโve already promised it to Mr. Byrd of Byrd Jewelry. Even this small piece youโve seen, I intend to gift it to someone else.โ
โThe Sanders can step in and terminate your deal with Byrd Jewelry on your behalf,โ Freya said with a sly smile.
I laughed in disbelief at her shamelessness. โSo this is how you do business? Making promises and breaking them whenever it suits you?โ
Freya lifted her chin proudly. โMy way of doing business is making the most beneficial decisions for the Sanders.โ
I said sarcastically, โHow noble of you. Why donโt you start by handing over that fifty-million-dollar yellow sapphire you won at auction last time, so I can learn by example? If you hand yours over, Iโll hand mine over too.โ
โYou-โ Freya flared with anger, her wolf eyes blazing as she glared at me.
I glared back without flinching. Hera seethed within me, eager to come out and put her in her place.
