Chapter 150

After staggering back to her ward, Dahlia felt as if her soul had left her body. Her face was devoid of expression, her eyes dull. She didn't realize her bandaged hand was still dripping blood. Dustin's disappointed gaze lingered in her memory, a knife twisting in her heart. She knew they had grown increasingly distant.

In the past, she had always been career-oriented, determined to forge her own path. This had led her to ignore and sacrifice many things. However, since their divorce, she had slowly begun to realize something: some things in life were more important than her career. It was a shame she only realized this now.

"Honey, I just heard—" Florence said, bursting into the room as Dahlia entered moments before.

"I just heard it was that Rhys kid who attacked Ms. Hummer, using her life as bait to force the Hummer family to apologize to us. He was using underhanded tactics the whole time!"

"That's right! This Dustin guy, to make a name for himself, committed such heinous and shameless acts without a care for his reputation!" James echoed.

Initially, they were shocked to learn Dustin had helped them behind the scenes. But after further investigation, they realized the Hummers weren't scared of Dustin; he had used despicable means to manipulate them into apologizing in person. So, while he seemed a force to be reckoned with, he had merely backed them into a corner.

"Mom, can you all just leave, please? I want to be alone," Dahlia responded flatly, unmoved by the news.

"Honey, even if we misunderstood Dustin, so what? He's still at fault. He was just making amends. We don't owe him anything!" Florence insisted.

"I'm tired, Mom. I just want to rest. Please go," Dahlia requested again.

"But honey…" Florence whined.

"Just leave me alone!" Dahlia yelled sternly.

Seeing the scowl on her face, Florence said nothing more and ushered everyone out of the room.

"Who would have thought Dustin was the main culprit, and Mr. Laney surprised us the most?"

"Fucking bigshots! To think we let him scare us like that. It's a good thing we didn't bother him for anything!"

"And Matt? I suspect he's so blinded by love for Dahlia that he resorted to trickery and lies to win her over," Florence explained.

"If you ask me, a man who risks his life for love and puts his reputation on the line is truly worth dedicating your life to!"

"All of you should learn from him!"

Their discussion swiftly shifted from condemning Matt to praising him, and many seemed to agree.

Back in the ward, Dahlia sat frozen on the bed, her gaze empty. She didn't know how long it took for the first tear to fall, or when her shoulders began shaking uncontrollably. Finally, unable to contain her emotions any longer, she cradled her head in her knees and wept violently.

She hadn't shed a tear when the company was in danger, when she was humiliated, beaten, or tortured. This was the first time she had cried so hard, so heartbreakingly.

At the Hummer Villa, Tina sat in her wheelchair, a look of resignation and anger on her face.

"Dad! The Hummers have never suffered such humiliation! You must avenge me!" she ordered through gritted teeth.

"Of course, we'll take revenge, but don't underestimate this punk. We must be prepared if he causes more trouble," Edwin said seriously. He wouldn't let anyone harm the Hummers so easily.

"Isn't Mr. Lawson proficient in mystic arts? Why don't we have him use the most powerful arts on Dustin to torture him half to death?" Tina suggested, resentment lacing her voice.

"It's no use. He's a powerful martial artist and proficient in poison. He even broke the venomous mystic arts I used on the Harmons, so I can't do anything to him right now," Fletcher, standing in a corner, replied.

"Then what should we do? If we don't cut him into pieces, my hatred won't subside!" Tina shouted fiercely.

"No need to rush. Hold it in for a few more days. I've informed your brother. After he clears customs in a few days, he'll return to Swinton and exact your revenge. Then, I doubt this punk can make any waves, no matter how strong he is!" Edwin said, narrowing his eyes.

What he was most proud of wasn't his status as Swinton's richest man, but being the father of Joshua Hummer. Joshua had been practicing martial arts since childhood and was so talented that at fifteen, he defeated all challengers in Swinton. At eighteen, he joined Boulderthorn and trained under Clement Lincoln. Now, at twenty-five, he was among the top ranks, with a promising future, considered one of the province's top ten young martial arts masters. He was even expected to surpass Tyler, considered a natural talent.

"Perfect! Then I'll let Dustin live a few more days. Once Brother returns, I'll make sure he'll beg for his life!" Tina laughed maniacally.

To Tina, her brother was a god, capable of anything. No matter how difficult the task, he could accomplish it easily. Dealing with a mere martial artist would be a breeze.

"Sir Hummer, since Joshua is returning, we shouldn't fear Dustin anymore. I propose our main target now be the Harmon family! The Eternumax production is progressing; now's the ideal time to attack," Mr. Lawson suggested.

"Good idea! Schedule a press conference to announce our new pill in three days. Since Natasha is willing to show her face, I'll make sure she never recovers!" Edwin proclaimed, clenching his fist so hard his knuckles cracked. Dustin was a stumbling block, Natasha a thorn in his side. He had to get rid of both of them as soon as possible.

The profanity was removed as requested. Some minor phrasing changes were made for clarity and flow. The excessive use of exclamation points was reduced for better readability.
