Chapter 248

Justin felt sympathetic as he stared into Maximus's reddened eyes. The poor chap had not only been taken advantage of by his mentor, but his fiancée had also been taken away. How miserable!

No man could endure the humiliation and resentment of losing his future wife. Heck, no one could stand losing a future spouse. It was hard to imagine that the second-in-command of Boulderthorn was, in fact, a wicked and dishonorable man.

“Just focus on your recovery for now,” Dustin said, giving Maximus an encouraging pat on the shoulder. “When you’re fully recovered, it’ll be time to take back what you lost.”

Maximus howled, his expression desolate. “I’ll never get better again! Not after my core was shattered and my nerves damaged! After losing my internal energy, I have nothing left to take revenge. I’m trash! I’m worthless!”

He clenched his fists, digging his fingernails into his palms until blood trickled between his thumb and index finger. He badly wanted revenge and justice, but he felt he had lost the opportunity.

“Who said you’re trash?” Dustin interjected coolly. “I can heal your injuries.”

Stunned, Maximus instantly lifted his head. “W-what did you say?”

“I said I can heal your injuries and rejuvenate your core,” Dustin repeated.

Maximus’s eyes widened with a mix of shock and anticipation. “Are you sure? You’re not kidding me, right?”

“Your core suffered some damage, but it’s not utterly ruined,” Dustin explained. “There’s still a chance. Rejuvenating your nerves is even simpler. As long as you stick to my treatment, you’ll regain full strength within ten days.”

Maximus’s face lit up with joy. He thanked Dustin profusely. “If you heal me, I shall owe my life to you. Be it scaling mountains or diving into the deep ocean, I’ll do whatever you ask without complaint!” He seemed serious. As a martial artist and sword enthusiast, his life had revolved around the pursuit of excellence in swordsmanship. The moment he learned his core was destroyed, he’d fallen into deep despair and even contemplated suicide. However, Dustin’s words reignited his hope and will to live.

“Okay, that’s enough,” Dustin said, helping Maximus up. “I’m not a sadist. Why would I send you to the mountains and the ocean? Consider it fate that you fainted right in front of my medical center. It was God’s will that I rescue you. Get some good rest, and remember not to harness your internal energy for the next two days.”

“Thank you,” Maximus said, bowing repeatedly. “You’re my savior!”

Dustin said nothing more but wrote a prescription for Caitlyn and reminded her to prepare the medicine according to the schedule.

At that moment, a deafening crash came from outside. They jumped in shock and rushed out. Two cars—one red, one white—had collided nearby. The red BMW appeared to have reversed and crashed into the white Honda, causing the latter to flip. Both cars were mangled, with debris scattered across the ground.

“Help! Please help my daughter!” A bleeding woman in white climbed from the white Honda. The impact had left her dizzy and weak. Her young daughter, no older than eight, was in the front passenger seat, unconscious. The girl appeared to be in critical condition; her abdomen was pierced by a sharp object.

The woman called for help, but couldn't open the misshapen car door.

“Crap!” Dustin’s face fell, and he jogged toward the Honda. A crowd had gathered, and some offered help, but they couldn’t pull the girl out. Smoke began billowing from the car, making the situation dire.

“I’ll give it a try,” Dustin said, yanking at the door handle. It cracked, and the entire door detached, surprising the onlookers.

After Dustin pried the door open and unfastened the seatbelt, he quickly lifted the girl to the roadside. She suffered head trauma, multiple fractures, and massive abdominal blood loss. The situation looked grim.

“Quick! Call an ambulance!” someone yelled.

“We have no time,” Dustin said. “I’m a doctor. Let me try.” He took out a gold needle and immediately began first aid.

“Get out of my way!” Two women emerged from the red BMW: a plump woman in her fifties and her attractive twenty-something daughter. Their designer clothes and jewelry suggested wealth.

Jane Engleton, the older woman, pointed at the woman in white. “Hey! Do you even know how to drive? Are you blind? Do you know how much our car costs? One million dollars! And it’s new! You have to compensate us! If you refuse, I’ll send your family to prison!”

The woman in white, taken aback, apologized profusely. “I’m sorry. I didn’t do it on purpose. I didn’t see your car.”

“Is saying sorry enough?” Jane pressed. “I’m warning you. You’ll pay me what the car’s worth, plus compensation for mental damages—at least eight hundred thousand to a million dollars!”

“I-I don’t have that money!” The woman cried.

“I don’t care!” Jane threatened. “Sell your house or your organs. Do what you need to, or I’ll teach you a lesson!”

Dustin finally intervened. “Can you be more shameless? It was you who reversed and crashed into the white car. How dare you demand compensation from the victim?”

The onlookers gasped. Examination of the accident showed the BMW had reversed into the Honda. The BMW driver should be held accountable.

“Nonsense! She crashed into my car!” Jane insisted. “So what if I reversed? Her eyes weren’t on the road! The lives of commoners like you aren’t worth much. Even if they died, they deserved it!”

The crowd gasped at her callous remark.
