Chapter 281
The moment Adjutant General Damon saw General Jenkins, he delivered a resounding slap without uttering a word.
General Jenkins was dazed, taking considerable time to recover. He had welcomed Adjutant General Damon with a smile, only to be met with a slap. This was unacceptable.
“Adjutant General Damon, what is the meaning of this?!” General Jenkins’ face darkened, his gaze hostile. Even as Christopher’s adjutant general, Damon had no right to humiliate him. After all, Chief General Spanner supported him. In terms of rank, he outranked Christopher.
“General Jenkins, that slap was a lesson,” Adjutant General Damon said coolly. “You should not have captured Mr. Rhys. Release him now, or face the consequences!”
“Are you threatening me?” General Jenkins snorted. “Damon, you’re nothing but an old general’s dog. What right do you have to order me around?!”
“I cannot, but the general can. If you don’t want trouble, do as I say,” Adjutant General Damon replied expressionlessly.
“Hmph, don’t use the general’s name to intimidate me!” General Jenkins said furiously. “The person I captured committed a heinous crime, and the evidence is irrefutable. You can’t simply demand his release!”
If Adjutant General Damon had been kinder, General Jenkins might have released Dustin out of respect for Christopher. But the slap had removed any possibility of civility.
“General Jenkins, don’t say I didn’t warn you. If you remain obstinate, no one can save you!” Adjutant General Damon warned.
“You think I’m scared?” General Jenkins glared. “I am Chief General Spanner’s subordinate. To touch him, you’d need his permission!”
“It seems you won’t release him?” Adjutant General Damon frowned.
“No! Even if God asked, I wouldn’t release him!” General Jenkins bellowed.
“Fine! I hope you won’t regret it!” Damon said, getting into his car and leaving General Jenkins fuming.
“Damn it, that dog! How dare he act so superior?” General Jenkins spat on the floor, touching his stinging cheek. He felt incredibly unlucky. First, Bloodbeast had slapped him, and now Adjutant General Damon, both under strange circumstances.
“What’s the matter?” Jade approached.
“Don’t ask. A crazy dog from the Murray family demanded Dustin’s release,” General Jenkins said annoyedly.
“No way. Could that punk have ties to the Murray family?” Jade frowned.
“Who cares? The Grant family is one of the Tremendous Three, just like the Murrays. Why should we fear them?” General Jenkins said irritably.
“You have a point.” Jade nodded.
As they spoke, an armed motorcade appeared at the far end of the road. Murray family flags adorned the motorcade. Dozens of military trucks, filled with soldiers, blazed towards them, quickly blocking the base entrance. Over three hundred armed soldiers dismounted, their gazes fixed on General Jenkins. Tension hung heavy in the air.
“Damon, what do you think you’re doing?!” General Jenkins nearly exploded. “How dare you bring so many people to my base? Are you trying to start a rebellion?”
“I’m carrying out my general’s orders to retrieve your hostage. If you won’t give him to me, I’ll take him by force,” Adjutant General Damon said indifferently.
“The audacity!” General Jenkins yelled, his eyes furious. “I am Chief General Spanner’s subordinate. Is the Murray family declaring war against him?!”
“I’m merely following orders. Anything else doesn’t concern me,” Adjutant General Damon said bluntly.
“It seems there’s no room for negotiation. Fine! Let’s see who has the larger force!” General Jenkins roared.
In the next second, a large wave of soldiers surged out of the base.
