About half an hour later, Pei Song's Maserati pulled up at the entrance of an abandoned mall. Yunlong followed closely behind and parked as well.
"The underground boxing ring is directly beneath this mall," Pei Song explained. "City South only has this one; it's the one you're looking for."
"Let's go," he said, entering the mall. Su Chen and Yunlong followed.
"A few years ago, the mall relocated," Pei Song continued, "leaving behind a large warehouse that was purchased and converted into this underground ring. While it's called a boxing ring, any fighting style is permitted."
"I assume those running an underground ring like this aren't ordinary people?" Su Chen remarked casually.
Pei Song smiled faintly. "You're right. It's run by the Su family's second young master, Su Can. He's got a keen business sense; this gambling den nets him billions annually. Yandu has no shortage of wealthy people willing to spend lavishly on thrills."
"Su Can?" Su Chen, initially accompanying Yunlong for amusement, narrowed his eyes. The revelation that Su Can was behind the ring sparked a glint of interest.
The three men proceeded to the security door of the former supermarket. Two guards, recognizing Pei Song, immediately opened it. They descended a staircase, where two more burly guards stood watch. Reaching the former first floor, they continued down a narrow corridor. Faint shouts and screams grew louder, stirring Yunlong's excitement.
Two more guards stood before a large door, opening it at Pei Song's approach. Inside, deafening shouts and cheers erupted; the atmosphere was electric. The space was densely packed, with a large central stageโroughly two hundred square metersโsurrounded by three-meter-high iron railings. The audience encircled the stage, but the eastern section was distinct. It boasted the best view, only ten high-end seats with small tables displaying fresh fruit and each patron attended by a scantily clad woman. The clientele here were clearly wealthy and influential.
"Young Master Pei, what a pleasure," a man in a business suit approached, bowing with a smile. Lai Jie, the manager, explained his presence.
"I brought a couple of friends for some entertainment," Pei Song replied, nodding.
"Young Master Su is also here. I'll let him know you've arrived."
"No need," Pei Song waved a hand. "We'll find him later. Just get us a seat."
"Of course," Lai Jie led them to the eastern section. The wealthy patrons stood to greet Pei Song, readily relinquishing their prime seats. Pei Song thanked them, seating Su Chen in the middle, with himself and Yunlong on either sideโper his grandfather's instructions to look after them, particularly Su Chen.
The others present were surprised by the deference shown to the plainly dressed Su Chen. Lai Jie, though equally surprised, remained silent, promptly summoning three of the most attractive women to serve them, the most beautiful attending to Su Chen, who accepted without objection.
"Big brother, the boss is quite creative, even with the VIP section!" Yunlong chuckled to Su Chen.
A match concluded, and a host emerged from an elevator lift.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the highlight of the evening is about to begin!" he boomed. "The formidable Basha is about to grace the stage!"
A thunderous roar erupted.
"Big brother, who's Basha?" Yunlong asked.
Su Chen shook his head.
A nearby patron chimed in, "Basha's incredible! Young Master Su Can brought him from Thailand. He's undefeated in ninety-five matches over two months, with over sixty knockouts, many within ten seconds. No one's lasted more than three minutes."
"That powerful?!" Yunlong was astounded. Even as a top special forces operative, he couldn't match that feat.
"Everyone's eager to see who can beat him!" the man exclaimed.
"Tonight, our undefeated champion Basha faces the Tongbei Fist expert, Ruan Chao! Let's welcome them both!" the host bellowed.
Elevators on opposite sides rose, revealing Basha and Ruan Chao. Ruan Chao was unremarkable, except for unusually long arms. Basha, however, was a striking figure: a blue headband, boxer shorts, dark skin, and piercing eagle-like eyes. His ferocious smile revealed sharp white teeth.
"Fancy a bet, friend?" the man whoโd spoken earlier patted Yunlongโs shoulder.
Yunlong's eyes lit up, "Where do I bet?"
"Follow me," the man led Yunlong to a bank of computers where a crowd had gathered. The ring's profits, obviously, stemmed from betting, not drinks.
"Mr. Su, care to place a bet?" Pei Song inquired.
Su Chen smiled, shaking his head, "No need."
