Chapter 303
After Henry finished speaking, an eerie silence fell. Lee, holding his recording device, glanced sideways at Odalys.
"You are really soliciting prostitution here?" Odalys stood rooted to the spot, barely able to suppress her laughter. She looked toward the dimly lit corner, meeting Percival's gaze. His lips were pursed, his face etched with helpless frustration as he rubbed his temples. He turned away, seemingly unable to bear watching any longer.
"Officer Hersey, look, they admitted it," Odalys whispered urgently. "I didn't make a false report, so please issue me a police report receipt right away, in case they try to turn the tables on me later." She struggled to stifle her laughter.
"Sure," Lee said, seemingly seeing through her. The last time, at the suburban villa, every location Odalys had pointed out yielded corpses, uncovering a major case that had overwhelmed the police station ever since. Lee had received a call about this incident while heading home from work. It wasn't originally his case, but he happened to be passing by.
Recently, the police station had been overwhelmed with a major case. This is why he had to detour, unexpectedly encountering Odalys again. Not only did she provide clues leading to a body, but she also helped solve a recent human trafficking case. Although police hadn't contacted her directly, Odalys's name was legendary within the station. Some officers even suggested recruiting her as a consultant; the higher-ups were still considering it.
Lee hadn't expected to see her again tonight.
"Thank you," Odalys said with a smile, calm and composed, as if the people just caught having an affair weren't her own brother and mother-in-law.
Lee, seemingly eager to please her, directly issued the police report receipt, bypassing the usual investigation. Odalys took the receipt and nodded in satisfaction.
"We didn't engage in prostitution! She filed a false police report!" Edie exclaimed, rushing forward, her wealthy demeanor gone. "Why did you give her a receipt?"
Lee, pen in hand, slowly turned to them. "There's video evidence of you talking in the car," he said hoarsely. "Plus, you admitted it. Come back to the station with me."
Edie gritted her teeth, reaching for her phone to make a call, while Henry's face darkened. He glared at Odalys, remembering her arrogant behavior at the Stewart Villa gate—kicking him, framing Sophia, and making life difficult for the Bennett Group. She's a jinx come to destroy the family, he thought. I have to kill her.
"Why are you fine? What about the curse?" Edie asked through gritted teeth. Odalys's nonchalant smile and gaze made Edie want to spit blood. Then, Edie felt a sharp chest pain and spat blood. Her chest hurt as if something was drilling into it; her internal organs felt torn. Her eyes widened as she looked at Odalys.
"You" Edie's lips murmured. Her face was pale. With a loud bang, she fell to the ground, struck by the curse worm. Odalys wasn't affected? she thought. Or was the worm removed? No, I touched Odalys this afternoonOnce the worm infects, it merges immediately! There's no escape. She had tried to control Odalys but the plan backfired. A dangerous feeling swept over Edie; she groaned in pain, rolled her eyes, and fainted.
"Officer Hersey, she vomited blood and fainted," Odalys said with a low smile. "It's none of my business! I didn't touch her. I suspect excessive sex."
Odalys had come to watch Edie suffer the curse's backfire. It brought her great pleasure.
"I know," Lee said helplessly, looking at her childlike smile. He wondered if this was the same resolute woman from before.
"Okay, I'm leaving," Odalys said softly.
Henry grabbed her arm. "Odalys, you did this on purpose! Revenge for being abandoned? You want to ruin me? What did I do?"
Odalys slowly turned. "Don't you want me to work like a slave for the Bennett family and exploit me without pay? After you deemed me useless, you forced me to marry in Sophia's place. You wanted to use the Bennett Group's connections to kill me. You sent people to kidnap my mentor to force me to work for you. You just want me dead, don't you?"
Henry gasped, meeting her gaze, then looked away with guilt. "You're my sister! Even if I wanted your life"
"Then what about Sophia? Didn't you tell everyone she's your sister?" Odalys smiled, holding up her phone. Henry reached for it, but she stepped back. "I'm live-streaming—from the moment you and Edie started having sex in the car, to the police, and your threats. I even thoughtfully included a close-up."
"Hello everyone!" Odalys said to her phone. "It's a pleasure to give you an exciting late-night broadcast. I wonder if the kids are asleep. This R-rated content isn't suitable for children."
